Home Show and GoodWe Australia, announce the return of innovative "EcoSmart Kids" educational program

Announcement posted by Exhibitions & Events Australia 22 Apr 2024

Home Show and GoodWe Australia, announce the return of innovative "EcoSmart Kids" educational program, now in collaboration with Great Barrier Reef Legacy.

GoodWe, a world-leading manufacturer of Solar products, and one of the top solar brands in Australia, has announced the return of its education initiative, "EcoSmart Kids", delivering a series of roadshow events across Victoria to inform and inspire children about climate change, renewable energy and positive environmental messages. Partnering again with the Home Show and Energy Matters, this year the program includes collaboration with the Great Barrier Reef Legacy team, to deliver awareness about the importance of protecting one of the largest and most complex natural systems on Earth.

Melissa Clendinen, General Manager, Exhibition & Events Australia (Event Organiser for Home Shows Australia) commented:

"The Home Show once again is excited to be part of the EcoSmart Kids program through their relationship with GoodWe Australia. The Home Shows have been operating for over 45 years and with EEA's annual show attendance of over 235,000 visitors annually, we see this as a great opportunity to create awareness amongst a younger audience. Working with GoodWe to deliver messaging about how renewable energy plays an integral part in helping the environment."

Following the success of the first EcoSmart Kids program in 2023, GoodWe will execute its 2024 program with over double the scale and scope, visiting schools from Gippsland to Bendigo. The program comprises a series of interactive animated workshops, written and created by GoodWe Australia, approved by education professionals and aimed at primary school children from grades two to six. Program content identifies what climate change is, ways of helping the environment and how solar and other renewable energy sources work. The GoodWe Australia team will visit many schools across Victoria to deliver the program inside the GoodWe smart innovation vehicle - a custom-made roadshow truck.

A new additional workshop has been added to the program, providing insight into the work of the Great Barrier Reef Legacy team and their Forever Reef project, which aims to collect and preserve over 415 species of hard coral and ultimately aid in re-population efforts. The Forever Reef program bio-bank facility was launched last year, as a world-first "coral ark" powered by a donated solar installation, complete with a GoodWe energy storage system.

Following the school visits, all participating children will be able to take part in a State-wide competition, to create something that promotes a positive environmental message, leaving the medium completely open to their own talents and passions, from art, to creative writing, to music and more. A judging panel consisting of representatives from GoodWe, Energy Matters, the Home Show and Great Barrier Reef Legacy will judge entries, with trophies and finalist prizes to be presented in front of attending schools, media and VIP guests at the Melbourne Home Show in August.

About Forever Reef
The Forever Reef Project aims to preserve the genetic biodiversity of hard coral species and catalogue, collect and store living fragments, tissue and genetic samples in a living 'coral ark' - a state-of-the-art facility located within the Cairns Aquarium, to maintain the living biodiversity of corals. The Forever Reef Project will be capable of hosting 12,000 live coral fragments to preserve coral biodiversity, through the collection of living coral specimens and creating a repository of live fragments, tissues samples and genetic material to aid in reef research and restoration efforts worldwide. With 415 species of coral in the Great Barrier Reef, the Forever Reef Project is aiming to collect all species by 2026, and currently houses nearly 50% of the species within the Cairns Aquarium facility. However, the ultimate goal for the Project is to collect all 800-1000 species of coral found in the world in order to properly understand and preserve all species, and complete the most precious collection on Earth.
