Unisys Wins Commendation for Providing Flawless Support to Beijing Capital International Airport

Company served as master systems integrator for new state-of-the-art terminal built in advance of 2008 Olympic Games

SYDNEY, December 11, 2008 - Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that the company has been formally recognised by the Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) for helping it achieve a flawless operation during the recently-concluded 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In order for Beijing to welcome the international and domestic guests of the 2008 Olympics, BCIA made significant investments in building Terminal 3, a state-of-the art facility worth US$3.2 billion (RMB 25 billion), estimated to be the world’s largest individual terminal.  With three terminals, three runways and two control towers in full operation, BCIA is the busiest airport in Asia1 and the 11th busiest in the world2.  The airport is expected to handle 76 million passengers, 580,000 flights a year and more than 124 flights per hour during peak periods by 2015.

In his commendation to Unisys, Mr. Dong Zhi Yi, general manager of BCIA said, “The Beijing International Capital Airport was one of the most important infrastructure projects supporting the 2008 Olympics. It has been highly praised for its user-friendly services, efficiency and exceptional professionalism. It achieved an outstanding record of ‘zero incidents, zero breakdowns and zero complaints’ during the Games. BCIA would like to express its gratitude to the Unisys team, the master systems integrator, for its whole-hearted support that helped make this perfect achievement possible.”

BCIA has been honoured by the Airports Council International (ACI) for quality service and special contributions during the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics. It was also the first Chinese airport to receive the Award of New Airport Development of the Year for 2008 by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA).

“We are flattered by this recognition from BCIA and are proud that Terminal 3 and the entire airport has been serving travellers and all other related business operations so well,” said Olivier Houri, president and general manager, Global Transportation, Unisys. “The Beijing International Capital Airport is instrumental to the long-term economic development of Beijing as well as Greater China.”

The BCIA authorities awarded the Terminal 3 Master Systems Integration contract to Unisys in 2005. A dedicated team of Unisys technical and functional experts led the design and development, integrated system architecture, testing, training, documentation and overall program management on this mission-critical assignment.

Concourse C & Concourse E became operational in April 2008 after vigorous testing by BCIA, and Unisys participated in extensive testing of the integrated platform to ensure the system could handle the daily flight volume during the Olympics. The Concourse D, which is dedicated to charter and special flights, opened in late July to support the Olympics.

To provide additional support for BCIA during the Olympics, Unisys assigned an experienced support team to the airport that consisted of project managers, network experts, application experts as well as other technical specialists. In the critical days (e.g. the opening and closing ceremonies), Unisys was on site 7 x 24 hours to ensure the smooth operation of the airport.
