ADC KRONE Joins Asia Pacific Fibre-to-the-Home Council as Founding Member

FTTH Council Membership Designed to Further Fibre Deployments Throughout Region

ADC KRONE announced today that it has joined the Asia Pacific Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council as a founding member. The company is now a member of the FTTH Council in every region of the world, furthering the deployments of fibre networks.
The Asia Pacific division of the FTTH council was formed in May 2005. The council is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to educate, promote and accelerate FTTH and the resulting economic and quality of life enhancements across the Asia Pacific region. The inaugural general meeting was held in Yokohama Japan on 31 May 1 June 2005, and attended by Dave Anderson, Director, Sales and Support from ADC KRONEs Asia Pacific headquarters.
While fibre has been increasingly incorporated into the network infrastructures for large corporations and cities, the purpose of the FTTH council is to facilitate the use of this incredible transmission capability for small business and the home, said Anderson.
Within Australia, FTTH is an emerging technology, which is currently being trialled and will ultimately replace the current copper-based and HFC-based telephone and cable TV networks. The latest FTTH trial is in Tasmania, where 1,000 premises will be linked via an FTTH network.
Surveys of FTTH activity around the world show that there are today well more than a million subscribers already connected on optical fibre access, with the Asia Pacific region having more of these subscribers, and growing the fastest. According to Dittberner Associates, Inc., the worldwide capital expenditures related to FTTH access technology will reach US$22.8 billion in 2013, from an estimated $3.7 billion in 2004 and predicts that the Asia Pacific region will be the largest market for FTTH access technology with 52.8% of the total, or $12 billion dollars. China alone will account for a third of the expenditures in the region, with nearly 24% of the worldwide market.
Partnering activities are presently underway between ADC KRONE and carriers and technology providers to assist in overcoming the new infrastructure challenges that FTTH deployments bring, specifically with Australias harsh environment and conditions.
With its world headquarters in the United States, ADC is one of the leading providers of fibre connectivity equipment in that market with its OmniReach portfolio of fibre distribution terminals, fibre access terminals and fibre connectorisation products. ADC KRONE aims to leverage these innovations and be a significant leader to the Australian market in providing world-class fibre infrastructure. Being a global operation, ADC will utilise global scale and locally implement best practices in technology deployments from other markets including the United States.
