Brennan furthers cloud play with launch of Backup, Recovery & Archive-as-a-Service

Announcement posted by Brennan 20 Oct 2009

Delivers a 38 percent Total Cost of Ownership saving compared to traditional storage methods
October 20, 2009, Sydney – Leading business-technology solutions provider to the mid-market, Brennan, today strengthened its push into cloud computing, with the launch of its Backup, Recovery & Archive-as-a-Service (BuRA-a-a-S) solution. Bundled under a monthly fee, the solution includes onsite data storage and replication hardware, installation and set-up, WAN link and offsite replication and storage at Brennan’s data centre facilities.

Against the backdrop of explosive data growth and heightened compliance obligations, the business case for a move to cloud based backup and storage is compelling says Dave Stevens, managing director, Brennan.

“Businesses transitioning from an ‘in house’ storage and archive model to the cloud can expect Total Cost of Ownership savings of between 25 to 38 percent over three years, and in some cases even as high as 40 percent when compared to traditional tape solutions.

“With IT budgets under constant pressure, businesses are looking for smarter ways to deliver the services they need, without the capital and staffing cost. This is why we are seeing more of our clients looking to transition some, or all, of their IT platform to the cloud. It’s an easy sell for IT executives as they do not have to justify large capital outlays plus delivers significant cost, security and scalability benefits,” said Stevens.

Brennan Backup, Recovery & Archive-as-a-Service provides an easy migration path from tape to a Virtual Tape Library, with minimal impact on existing business processes, and includes:

Installation and configuration of data de-duplication and storage devices

Installation and configuration of primary backup server

Installation and configuration of replacement backup software

Configuration of backup software to stage to disk with a defined retention policy

Configuration of data de-duplication replication between client site and Brennan data centre

Installation and configuration of secondary backup server facilities in Brennan data centre

Specifying and installation of appropriate network connectivity between client site and Brennan data centre

Monthly storage of replicated business data.

Brennan has invested heavily in building out the infrastructure to support their push into the delivery of cloud computing services to the mid market. However, Stevens adds that technology is just one aspect of their total investment. Maintaining service levels and support to meet the evolving needs of their clients is critical.

“It’s not just the delivery of a service, it’s about having an ongoing relationship with the client, engaging with and understanding their business, looking for opportunities to make their IT platforms more effective and helping them to find competitive advantage through IT,” said Stevens.
