Explore the musical heritage of gypsy culture at Sunset@Subi.

Announcement posted by Pan International (Australia) Pty Ltd 04 Jan 2010

The fourth concert in the Sunset@Subiaco series features two of Australia’s finest acoustic guitar ensembles Gypsy Masala and Krzysztof and Selepak.

Prepare to be captivated with this daring and experimental hybrid ensemble that use tone of Spanish guitar with Indian tabla to interpret a mix of western classical and traditional eastern European melodies.

Gypsy Masala and Krzysztof and Selepak each explore the musical heritage of gypsy culture through uniquely styled performances.

The Gypsy Masala musical trio blend distinct cultural rhythms and styles of instrumentation to create a dynamic new sound. Infusing the drama of gypsy flamenco guitar with the passion of traditional Indian tabla playing, this energetic ensemble will captivate audiences. Flamenco guitar virtuoso and composer Tim Andrew performs alongside North Indian tabla master Pranjal Bora, with Alex Borthwick on guitar and Anthony Lindhjem demonstrating harmonic mastery of the six-string bass.

Local guitar duo Krzysztof and Selepak will kick off the evening entertainment. Both outstanding guitarists by international standards, Krzysztof Piotrowicz is Australia's only performer of the Russian seven-string guitar, and Mardae Selepak one of the nation’s finest classical guitar talents. Together they will perform a range of acoustic guitar arrangements that encapsulate the traditions of Russian, Spanish and South America guitar playing.

This intense and romantic musical event takes place on Sunday 10 January 2010 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm at JH Abrahams Reserve, The Avenue, Crawley Foreshore. For more information on the Sunset@Subi concert series or a brochure, contact the City of Subiaco on 9237 9222 or visit the website www.subiaco.wa.gov.au.
