~ Storage Solutions Expert Tops Prestigious FORTUNE Category List ~
One of the most prestigious recognitions is to be acknowledged by your peer group. StorageTek (Storage Technology Corp., NYSE:STK), the storage services and solutions expert, has been validated as the most admired company in the computer peripheral category as it ranks No. 1 in FORTUNE's 2003 America's Most Admired Companies list for the second year in a row.
"It is an honour to be singled out by our peers and our competition for this prestigious FORTUNE award," said Pat Martin, StorageTek chairman, president and CEO. "Given these tough economic times, our industry knows how challenging it is to run a thriving business. This award validates StorageTek's hard work and diligence as we've raised our position in the industry by increasing earnings, keeping revenue on track, controlling costs, and adding solutions and services to our comprehensive portfolio of offerings.
FORTUNE's 2003 America's Most Admired Companies list is decided by some 10,000 executives, directors and analysts who vote for the companies they most admire based on innovativeness, employee talent, use of corporate assets, corporate responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long term investment value, and quality of products and services. Within each of the 66 industry categories, competitors are asked to rank companies within their category based on their knowledge of each company's performance in the eight individual areas.
In an article in the March 3, 2003, issue of FORTUNE, editors acknowledged the challenging market conditions facing companies, said, "...Amid the doom, several companies shone, mostly by holding up better than their rivals during tough economic times."
StorageTek, which concluded 2002 with its 10th consecutive quarter of earnings growth and as one of two companies out of 18 on the Goldman Sachs Hardware Index to finish 2002 with a higher stock price than 2001, was selected for the top spot in the computer peripheral category by its peers, some of which include Lexmark International, EMC, Symbol Technologies,
Maxtor and Quantum.
In addition to being recognised by FORTUNE, StorageTek was recently upgraded by BusinessWeek to the top half of its BusinessWeek InfoTech 100. StorageTek's strong financial results catapulted it from #81 to #43 in this listing in just five months. With the help of Standard & Poor's financial data, BusinessWeek ranks the top technology companies in the world based on their performance. The BusinessWeek InfoTech 100 recognises those companies that are the biggest, fastest growing, most profitable, or provide the best returns.
