Announcement posted by Pan International (Australia) Pty Ltd 20 Jul 2010

In keeping with sunday@subi’s tradition of presenting the very best of Perth musical talent, this Sunday sees the Garry Lee Trio and Denise Dale take to the stage. This performance is sure to captivate audiences, with a musical line-up that has been d

Garry plays vibraphone and guitar, and Lukasz Slawomirski pair’s keyboards or piano with keyboard bass. Along with drummer Tim Woolley, the trio is able to create amazingly varied and sophisticated jazz and Latin textures.

Lukasz and Garry commenced working together in late 1983 and enjoyed a residency alongside classical pianist David Helfgott. As a duo they have performed together in Singapore and at Thredbo Jazz Festival in New South Wales.

Garry has led jazz bands in Sydney and Perth. In 1993 he won a National Jazz Award for his vibraphone playing and in 1998 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to undertake advanced vibraphone studies in the United States (US).

Garry’s music has been well reviewed both nationally in the US and the United Kingdom. He has been invited to lead bands supporting Wynton Marsalis, Philip Morris Super Band, Festival of Perth, Houghton Winery, Perth Jazz Society, Jazz Fremantle, Fremantle Arts Centre and various jazz and music festivals in Western Australia.

Garry Lee said the trio looked forward to the city’s vibrant winter concert series.

“It is a long time since we have played at the Subiaco Arts Centre, but it is a venue we always look forward to, as the intimacy of the theatre lends itself well to the style of acoustic jazz that we really enjoy,” he said.

The Garry Lee Trio is joined this Sunday by vocalist Denise Dale who has guested with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Denise possesses a warm resonant voice and sings a repertoire of popular standards including recent pop tunes that lend themselves to a jazz interpretation. Denise is one of those rare vocalists whose personality seems to shine through as she sings.

Tickets are free and are available on the day from 1.15pm, with concerts starting at 2pm and finishing at 3.30pm, including a short break to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from the Subiaco Arts Centre bar.

The sunday@subi series is a free community concert series that covers a mix of themes and genres suitable for all ages. The series runs every Sunday from 18 July to 3 October at the Subiaco Art Centre, 180 Hamersley Road, Subiaco.
