Expansion plans for Aberdeen-based BHA specialist

Specialist offshore equipment provider Titan Torque Services has appointed a director of business development to spearhead its next phase of growth in the North Sea market and internationally.

Bruce Jepp’s appointment represents the latest strategic step forward for the Aberdeen-based company, which provides pre-made drilling assemblies and innovative drill bit protection equipment.

Formed in 2008, Titan has already experienced significant growth and was formally recognised earlier this year for its innovative approach to product development.

Managing Director Keith Gaskin says: “It is great to bring someone with Bruce’s experience and industry knowledge on board at a time when we are looking to broaden both our service provision and customer base.

“Our success to date has been based upon offering cost-effective services and products that enhance operational efficiency and safety for our customers, and Bruce, with his intimate knowledge of our specific market sector, will now play a key role in maintaining that momentum.”

Bruce (39), who has joined Titan from a globally-operating oil service company, has extensive international experience across a range of industry disciplines. He began his career in roles which involved pipeline and process operations, including pressure testing, purging and commissioning of offshore pipeline assets.

The MSc graduate in offshore engineering from The Robert Gordon University most recently worked in drilling and applications engineer roles, latterly in technical sales.

"This is an exciting time to be joining Titan, which has already forged a prominent place in the market because of its dynamic and progressive philosophy,” says Bruce. “I’m looking forward to playing my part in its development as we look to extend both our bottomhole assembly service provision and the deployment of our drill bit protector equipment.

“In particular we are committed to finding ways to perform even more drill assembly operations onshore and thus yield greater safety and efficiency gains for the industry.”

Titan’s specially-designed drill bit protector won the innovation award at the 2010 Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise and the product is already widely used by a number of North Sea operators.

The company has recently doubled the size of its facility in Aberdeen’s East Tullos Industrial Estate to 10,000sq ft to manage its growth, and anticipates its workforce will increase from six to 10 by the end of 2010.
