Queensland Government awards Dimension Data two key IT security Standing Offer Arrangements
Brisbane, Australia – September 27, 2010 – Dimension Data today announced that it has been awarded two major Standing Offer Arrangements (SOAs) under the Queensland Government’s ICT Consolidation (ICTC) program. This whole-of-Government program is a key component of the Queensland Government’s investment in delivering efficient, innovative consolidated information and communications technology (ICT) across the public sector and streamlining service delivery to the community.
Dimension Data will be providing technology, solutions and services for Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) in partnership with RSA; and Patch and Vulnerability Management (PVM) in partnership with McAfee. Both SOAs and initial contracts form part of the Foundation Infrastructure Project (FIP), a key component of ICTC. The FIP will build the foundation infrastructure that enables whole-of-Government consolidation of the Queensland Government’s CBD data centres, networks and infrastructure services to CITEC, the Government’s primary ICT service provider.
Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
SIEM solutions collect and analyse security event information from many sources in real time to identify attacks, correlate security events and analyse/report on security log and security event data for compliance monitoring.
Dimension Data will implement RSA’s enVision solution to collect and receive events and log data from network, system and application sources.
”This is a significant announcement from the Queensland Government that shows they are taking some very real security threats seriously,” says Mason Hooper, Queensland Territory Manager, RSA. “It is a commendable initiative and RSA is pleased to play an active role with Dimension Data in the delivery of a more secure infrastructure for the citizens of Queensland.”
Patch and Vulnerability Management (PVM)
PVM solutions scan for and report on security vulnerabilities and misconfigurations on network devices, systems and applications.
McAfee Vulnerability Manager will be deployed by Dimension Data to scan and report on security vulnerabilities and misconfigurations on network devices, systems and applications.
“We are proud to be a trusted advisor on cybersecurity for the Queensland Government. This transaction is another example of our growing partnership with the Australian state and federal governments,” said Andrew Littleproud, managing director of McAfee Australia and New Zealand. “With McAfee Vulnerability Manager, the Queensland Government will gain fast, precise and complete insights into vulnerabilities on its networked assets so it can stay ahead of evolving threats and new vulnerabilities.”
Both SIEM and PVM systems will be integrated to enable a broad range of risk and compliance reporting, and both systems will also be integrated with Queensland Government’s Enterprise Management and IT Service Management systems.
In addition to the design and implementation of both the SIEM and PVM solutions, Dimension Data security consultants will develop the standards and policies for both solutions, and draft the Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture (QGEA) position papers for both SIEM and PVM. Under the Standing Offer Arrangements, Dimension Data will also provide a catalogue of security services with preferential whole-of-Government rates to streamline the process for agencies requiring security services such as forensic analysis, incident response and independent vulnerability assessment.
“I’d like to applaud Queensland Government for taking such a positive step towards consolidating its ICT infrastructure, and also for realising the importance of governance, risk and compliance in relation to securing systems, applications and data,” said Steve Nola, Australian CEO, Dimension Data. “By combining these three fundamental security practices with technical solutions from McAfee and RSA, Dimension Data has offered a compelling answer to the Government’s IT security management needs.”
