Newcastle based Hunter United Credit Union welcomed the Federal Government’s banking reform package unveiled by Treasurer Wayne Swan on Sunday.
"There are some real positives for credit unions and building societies in the Government’s announcement. Hunter United is ready to compete with the banks and this package gives a welcome boost to our efforts," said Hunter United’s Managing Director John Ford
"Hunter United is a great customer owned alternative to the banks. We’ve been serving our members and the community with great products and services since 1963." said Mr Ford.
The Government’s "Bank on a better deal" campaign and the proposals to make switching accounts easier will make important contributions to raising consumer awareness that there is choice in banking.
"There is competition in banking and the Government’s campaign will help more consumers know about the great value deals being offered by credit unions and building societies."
"We encourage the people of Newcastle and the Hunter to come in and find out what Hunter United can offer them. Shopping around might just be the best financial decision you ever make." said Mr Ford.
Credit unions and building societies will continue to consult with the Government of the detailed elements of the package and look forward to implementing the reforms over the coming months.
"The Government is clearly frustrated with the big banks. Consumers are clearly frustrated."
"If you are unhappy with your bank, the loudest message you can send the bank is to take your business somewhere else. Come and visit Hunter United and we’ll help you get better value banking at a place where you will always come first. If people want to know more, we encourage them to go to www.hunterunited.com.au" said Mr Ford.
