MELBOURNE KIDS’ “DREAM” DAY OUT ON THE GOLD COAST

Announcement posted by Harvest Ideas 09 Mar 2011

Mrs Australia and Virgin Blue Group of Airlines’ cabin crew supervisor Nikki Eastmure will escort a group of 30 disadvantaged children and their parents from around Melbourne to the Gold Coast for a dream ‘Day Out’ on one of Virgin Blue’s fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, onWednesday 16 March.

Sponsors, Virgin Blue Group of Airlines have provided the seats on the aircraft, while Dreamworld offered entry tickets for the group and Surfside Buslines offered transport around the Gold Coast, and together the companies have made this dream into a reality.

Five months in the planning, the organising and fundraising will ensure the children have a fun day with an itinerary that includes: a return flight from Melbourne to the Gold Coast and a visit to Carrara Stadium to meet and mingle with the players from the AFL’s Gold Coast SUNS who will present the children with gifts. The majority of the day will be spent at Dreamworld and WhiteWater World where the kids and their carers will be able to enjoy a fun-filled adventure taking on the parks’ numerous rides and attractions.

Nikki’s goal is to make the children’s lives a dream for a day, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these children to escape their hardships for the day and have some fun with their brothers and sisters, and where better than Queensland’s Gold Coast.

“Many of these children have not even been on a plane before…they would never have been able to do this as children without these gifts from very generous sponsors,” she said.

Nikki has spent the past two weeks visiting the families and announcing the news of their participation in the Kids’ Day Out program. The children have been chosen through Child Services, Heart Kids and the Monash Children’s Hospital.

Nikki has organised the Kids’ Day Out, which is an annual event for the not-for-profit charity, Project Dovetailwww.projectdovetail.org.auunder the auspices of the Mrs Australia Group. Each year the reigning Mrs Australia runs Project Dovetail’s Kids’ Day Out and Nikki wanted to make a big impact with this year’s event. The Mrs Australia pageant is the largest organised event of its kind in Australia and is linked to the Women In Need foundation, speaking out on domestic violence against womenwww.mrsaustralia.com.au.
