A brand new $50,000 pilot program designed to equip local businesses with the skills and ‘know how’ to successfully compete for Government and commercial tenders is underway thanks to a partnership between AdelaideAqua D&C and Innovate SA.

Designed to help South Australian businesses develop their skill base and capability, the Southern Adelaide Business Ready (SABRE) program works with clients to provide training, accreditation advice and also covers business skill development including effective project management techniques.

AdelaideAqua D&C, the consortium responsible for the design and build of the Adelaide Desalination Plant has generously provided funding for the program administered by Innovate SA.

The project which kicks off this April and is expected to take between three to four months to complete and is targeted at companies working in the metal fabrication, water and testing industries.

According to Innovate SA Chief Executive Greg Boundy, the SABRE Program is the result of the collaboration of several stakeholders including AdelaideAqua D&C, the Southern Success Business Enterprise Centre, Onkaparinga Council and Innovate SA.

“The SABRE program is a great example of how we can work together to ensure great outcomes for businesses in South Australia.

“By assisting companies to develop their skills, they are better prepared to win contracts for Government and private projects which is a great result for the companies and a great result for the state.”

According to Duncan Whitfield, Project Director for AdelaideAqua D&C, “Innovate SA will be working with AdelaideAqua D&C to identify South Australian companies involved in the supply chain who would benefit from participation the program.

“The project is a great way to ensure that South Australian companies are on the front foot in satisfying the requirements to become preferred suppliers and contractors for major projects,” Duncan says.
