PDK Martial Arts School is producing Karate Champions

The Australian Open Karate Championships were held in Melbourne last April and PDK Martial Arts School had a great report card with several students competing and securing placements.

Australian Open Karate Championships: 15-17 April 2011

Participants who competed in the Championship:

Rachael Fulton: 16 - 17 years; Female Kata (Forms) and Kumite (Sparring).Joshua Pooranakaran: 9 years; Male Kata and Kumite, Black Belt Division (although he is not a black belt yet) and Novice Division. Michael Basckin: 16 - 17 years; Male Kata and Kumite, Black Belt Division. Senior Men’s Kata.Richard Basckin: 14 - 15 years; Male Kata and Kumite, Black Belt Division.John Georgas: 16 - 17 years; Male Kata and Kumite, Black Belt Division. Senior Men’s Kata.

Results:

John Georgas: 16 - 17 years old; Male Kata: First Place; Senior Men’s Kata: Third Place

After so many years of competing in his division and coming short of taking 1st place, John Georgas finally achieved 1st place in his Kata Division. In addition to that, he also proved himself worthy of competing in the Seniors Kata event and got the 3rd Place. It is such a tremendous achievement for a 16 year old considering only the elite of athletes can accomplish and obtain such results. “John will be travelling to Las Vegas this week to compete and represent Australia in the US Karate Open. He is aspiring to represent Australia in the coming Junior World Championship to be held in Malaysia in November of this year.” said trainer and PDK Dojo Martial Arts School owner Ricky Rigor.

Michael Basckin: 16 - 17 years old; Male Kata: Second Place.

“Michael is also an elite athlete and a direct competitor of John Georgas. He showed excellent performance which resulted to achieving First and Second in the same division.” Rigor explained.

Joshua Pooranakaran: 9 years old; Male Kata: First Place, Novice Division. First Place, Black Belt Division. Male Kumite: Second Place, Novice Division. Second Place, Black Belt Division.

“Joshua showed amazing results on his performance in this competition. Considering he is just 9 years old and is not a Black Belt yet. With this kind of performance he can be the future of Karate in Australia!” Ricky proudly told.

At the PDK Dojo Martial Arts School we are very proud of our students. Not only for achieving such great results at a champion level but for the determination and effort they put into doing something well. We hope to produce more champions in this sport and more importantly build the character of our young members.” Ricky Rigor continued.
