Announcement posted by It's My Health 15 Jun 2011

More than five men die prematurely each hour in Australia from conditions that might have been preventable.

Consumer health website, www.itsmyhealth.com.au reports that more than five men die prematurely each hour in Australia from conditions that might have been preventable including heart disease, cancer, accidents, suicide, alcoholism, obesity and smoking.

According to men’s health advocate, Foundation 49, men make up 49% of the population but use health services 30% less than women. Experts are urging men to see their GP for a regular ‘wellness check-up’.

From age 20 men should have their blood pressure and cholesterol checked every couple of years. After 40 they should start having regular checks for diabetes. And from age 50, men should get checked for bowel cancer every year.
