Announcement posted by NRMA Motoring & Services 15 Jun 2011
The NRMAs CarFit program is a free community education program that offers seniors the opportunity to check how well their cars „fit them and make adjustments to suit an individual drivers needs.
Each individual assessment lasts 30 minutes and goes over an 11 point checklist, which includes measuring the correct distance the driver should be from the steering wheel airbag, adjusting mirrors and ensuring head restraints are in the right place.
NRMA Director Dawn Fraser said the CarFit program was designed to ensure mature drivers were comfortable behind the wheel.
"As we mature our bodies become less flexible and we increasingly find that driving a car is not as comfortable as it was when we were younger," Ms Fraser said.
"If we make a few simple adjustments to our cars settings we can make a huge difference to your level of comfort and of course safety. We even have an Occupational Therapist on hand to answer your questions.
"Modern cars have a wide range of adjustments that can be made to seats, head restraints, steering wheels and mirrors to make the ride much more comfortable.
"Often drivers share cars with other family members who are different shapes and sizes, so it is important to know how to „fit your car around you to be safe and comfortable at all times," said Ms Fraser.
Come along from 10-11am to have a cup of tea with NRMA Director Dawn Fraser.
