SYDNEY JULY 15, 2011: With just under four weeks to go, Sydney runners and walkers are limbering up for the BayRun , but there’s still time to register at www.bayrun.com.au or from 6.30am on the day.

The seven kilometre BayRun is a great lead-up to the iconic City2Surf. There’s also a 2km race for primary aged children, and the hotly contested Fastest Dog in the Inner West. The race kicks off at 8.00am on Sunday 7 August, with coffee, a BBQ and free goodie bags.

Participants can not only feel good about having fun and getting fit – they can also raise much needed funds for the BayRun’s official charity – CanTeen. Registered BayRunners can sponsor CanTeen by registering at www.everydayhero.com.au/event/bayRun 11. CanTeen is hoping to raise $25,000 to go towards CanTeen’s programs and services for 12-24 year olds living with cancer. Every year in Australia, thousands of young people are suddenly confronted with a cancer diagnosis and CanTeen’s peer support programs, counselling and resources mean that they don’t have to face their cancer journey alone.

On the day CanTeen will also be running a competition to guess how many steps Natalie takes to complete Bay Run! The winner will receive a fantastic sports pack from Paul’s Warehouse.

Natalie’s story
Natalie has been a Member of CanTeen for six years since her dad was in hospital with cancer and her mum saw a CanTeen brochure. He sadly passed away, and Natalie has been involved with CanTeen ever since:

“When I first joined CanTeen I was very shy and never talked about my cancer experience. The support I have received over the years from fellow members and staff has enabled me to become the strong individual I am today and helped me through the most difficult time in my life. With this support I was able to unleash a strength from within that I originally had no idea that I had. CanTeen has provided me with the most amazing opportunities and I've made friends for life.”

The Bay Run’s generous sponsors this year include Muirs Holden and Muirs KIA Ashfield, NAB, Warwick Williams, adidas, Vision Personal Training, Navarra Venues, Canada Bay Club, Balmain Sports Medicine, Traffik and our media partner 2GB.

Additional funds raised after the costs of organising the race go to Dobroyd Point Public School for facilities for the students.
