Mumpreneur finding success with work/family/life balance

Announcement posted by Swish Lily 27 Jul 2011

Working from home and running your own successful business while being a mother sounds like the ideal balance between juggling a career and a family but it isn't all smooth sailing. Drive and determination along with a lot of hard work and long hours has been the key to the success of Swish Lily.

To acknowledge this success, Jayne Day of Swish Lily has been selected as a finalist in the 2011 Bio-Oil AusMumpreneur Awards.

The 2011 Bio-Oil AusMumpreneur Awards presented by connect2mums celebrate and recognize Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business, product development, services and innovation in businesses from Australia and New Zealand. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.

Jayne says, “I have a background in Real Estate Property Management but after I started a family I investigated other business ideas where I could contribute financially and still be home with my children. I wanted flexibility in my working hours - in short, a work/family/life balance. Swish Lily was born in 2007 while pregnant with our 3rd child. Swish Lily started by selling on Ebay and established a great customer base. We then launched our own online boutique in 2008. Swish Lily’s mission is to provide an exceptional online shopping experience for our customers. We want our customers to have online access to fabulous products at affordable prices but most importantly, to make the whole experience enjoyable and easy.”

There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Jayne explains, “I can be a successful businesswoman but still have the flexibility to choose what hours of the day I work so that I can be available for the kids activities or to be home with them when they are sick”.

It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and Jayne gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. "Belive in yourself and in your business idea. Understand that being a Mumpreneur is extremely hard work and it isn't as easy as it sounds. I certainly thought it was going to be easier. But it is also very rewarding and satisfying. Don't give up when the going gets tough as you only fail when you stop trying."

Swish Lily is an online boutique for Mums, Bubs & Kids offering a large range of products that are stylish and affordable. Order online at your convenience any time of the day or night and have your purchase delivered directly to your door. Products include nursery furniture, baby hammocks, bassinets, baby high chair, nappy bags, breastfeeding cover, breast feeding tops, cloth nappies, kids swimwear, baby clothes, kids clothing, pregnancy clothes, kids pyjamas, baby swaddles and wraps, baby skin care, girls jewellery, children's bedroom accessories including floor cushions, bean bags and bean chairs plus much more.
