NEC Upgrades Regional Networks to Better Connect Nationwide Broadband DeliveryCritical to the reliability and performance of services delivered over NEC’s business grade network, this extensive upgrade provides improved broadband to regional communities across Australia.
Sydney, 28 July 2011 - NEC Australia today announced the upgrade of its Regional DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) and MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) Core Networks, providing more extensive nation-wide coverage, increased speed and greater bandwidth for Australian businesses. The network upgrade will support more feature-rich solutions, as well as delivering existing and future services more efficiently, reliably and cost effectively to customers.
With one of Australia’s largest DSLAM networks, NEC Australia’s Nextep network now provides wide area connectivity and data service access to urban, metropolitan and regional users. Using transmission services supplied by Nextgen as part of the Federal Government’s Regional Backbone Blackspots Program, NEC Australia is rolling out 62 new DSLAMs across 5 backbone links in regional areas of New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia. Three links are now operational and offering services, with the final two links scheduled for completion by the end of 2011. Regional communities will immediately benefit from the increased competition this investment brings in the delivery of broadband and value added services.
According to Alan Hyde, Managing Director, NEC Australia, “To match forecasted increases in bandwidth and the quality of service demanded by our customers, NEC’s backhaul and core network capacity have been expanded extensively to ensure the continued delivery of reliable, high quality and cost effective services to our customers.”
As a result of this upgrade NEC will now deliver its customers a wide range of upgraded and improved value-added services that include:– High speed national private networks – High performance and low contention internet access– Support for Voice, Data and Video services ‘Triple play’ on a common backbone– Cloud based solutions via internet or private networks
This important investment reaffirms NEC’s commitment to be a leading ICT and network solutions provider in the Australian market.
