NRMA road safety grants for the ACT

Announcement posted by NRMA Motoring & Services 09 Sep 2011

Government and not for profit organisations in the ACT have until 25 September to apply for a share in a hundred thousand dollars worth of grant funding for local road safety and educational projects.

NRMA Motoring & Services Director Alan Evans said the NRMA has helped many schools, youth organisations, parent and community groups to get important projects up and running through its Safer Driving School Road Safety Grant Program and urged those based in the ACT to apply.

"No project is too minor when it comes to safety in the community and a little funding can go a long way towards potentially saving lives," Mr Evans said.

"Successful grants have been awarded for a range of safety initiatives including educational campaigns targeting driver, cycling and pedestrian safety and correct driver behaviour around school pick up and drop off zones.

"NRMA’s grant program allocates $100,000 each year to help communities throughout NSW and the ACT to fund important road safety projects.

"The submission process is not complicated; just tell us what you would like to do before the end of the month and your ideas could become a reality before you know it.

"NRMA recognises that schools, community groups and not for profit organisations are often crying out for funding which is why they should act on NRMA’s grant opportunity now."

Submissions are being accepted for the following Grant categories:

High Schools – Ten $1,000 grants.
Primary Schools – Ten $1,000 grants.
Create an interactive whiteboard presentation - Ten $1,000 grants for Primary or High Schools.
Youth-based community groups – Ten $1,000 grants
Infants & Preschoolers – Four $2,500 grants.
Older Road Users – Four $2,500 grants.
General Community – Grants up to $5,000.

Mr Evans said organisations might be surprised at the wide range of projects NRMA’s Safer Driving School Road Safety Grants are able to fund.
