$25,000 In Prizes For Best In The West
The NSW Government is looking for Western Sydney inventors, entrepreneurs, academics, researchers, students and residents who have great ideas for commercialising technology, the Minister for Western Sydney, Kim Yeadon announced today.
$25,000 in cash prizes and more awaits the winners of the first Western Sydney Information Technology Start-Up Award which aims to find out just how many commercially viable ideas are waiting in people's heads, garages and workshops.
"We are now taking entries for the inaugural IT Start-Up Award," Mr Yeadon said.
"The Award is open to Western Sydney people who have a realistic, marketable and business-ready idea capable of being commercialised over a 12 month period.
"Winners will receive cash totalling $25,000 and professional business planning advice to help them commercialise their IT projects.
"The Award is an important plank in the NSW Government's strategy to accelerate the growth of the IT industry in Western Sydney."
Entries for the IT Start-Up Award close on 30 April.
The Office of Western Sydney will hold an information session for potential entrants on Tuesday 12 March, 2002, including a workshop on preparing a business plan.
The IT Start-Up Award will be judged by senior IT executives from business and industry associations over three stages.
Entrants will submit an executive summary in April; semi-finalists submit a full business plan in June; and finalists will present their business plan in July.
Mr Yeadon thanked the Start-Up Award sponsors Acumen Alliance, the NSW Department of Information Technology and Management and the NSW Department for Women.
"This initiative has enormous potential to help establish vibrant and innovative IT start-ups in Western Sydney, with considerable flow-on benefits in terms of generating investment, skills and jobs for the region," he said.
