Samsung Galaxy S2 - Most Desirable Handset

Announcement posted by Phones Limited 28 Sep 2011

The Samsung Galaxy S2 currently enjoys the title as the most desired smartphone in the world. This is such an unexpected accomplishment for an Android-powered handset since there are so many available in the market. Most of us expected the Apple iPhone 4 to remain in pole position. Despite the influx of Android devices, it still managed to top the charts as the most highly coveted phone this 2011.

Before we take a look at the figures, let's take a look at the sales performance of Apple's current flagship handset. The phone made by the Cupertino firm was announced back in June of 2010. When it went on sale in the US on June 24 of the same year, who would have guessed that 1.7 million units would be sold on the 26th of June? No one thought that any other phone the competition had to offer would perform this good when it comes to sales. That's what we thought.

In February of 2011, Samsung announced its new flagship. This was the Galaxy S2. The phone came with a number of features we previously thought was impossible. It rocks a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display. It sports an 8 megapixel front-facing camera coupled with a 2 megapixel rear-facing camera for video calls. However, the biggest accomplishment was managing to stuff all of this cutting-edge hardware in phone that was only 8.49 mm slim. Furthermore, the phone weighed in a mere 116 grams. Compared to the single-core processor, 5 megapixel camera, 9.3 mm thickness, and weight of 737 grams of the iPhone 4, Samsung's smartphone was a marvel of technology. With these phone specifications, the handset started to draw in attention from consumers.

In April of 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S2 was released to the public. Despite the phone's superior specifications, many still believed that it could not measure up against Apple's smartphone. They were wrong. In just 55 days the smartphone went on sale, it hit the 3 million mark. In July, it surpassed this sales record by selling 5 million units. This September, the phone has hit the 10 million mark.

You may be thinking, "Big deal!" The iPhone 4 hit 1.7 units sold in just a few days it went on sale. However, think about this. The smartphone hit the 5 million mark without launching in the US. Furthermore, it did this amazing feat at a fraction of the money spent on advertising and marketing compared to the massive amount of money spent by Apple.

With these facts before you, do you still doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S2 is the most desired smartphone in the world?
