Melbourne’s Top Designs revealed in the Melbourne Design Awards

Friday, 7th of October: The best of local Melbourne design was revealed last night at the presentation of the Melbourne Design Awards.

Some of the bigger profile projects to walk away with category wins were the Gotye Somebody I Used to Know film clip and professional services firm Deloitte’s Bamboo in the animation and digital design categories respectively. Local Melbourne songstress, Paris Wells, also picked up an award for the film clip to her song Let’s Get it Started.

“We were thrilled to see the Melbourne design market is thriving and that we’re seeing the best of the city’s creative works being recognized in this year’s Melbourne Design Awards.” Said Mark Bergin, Melbourne Design Awards Creative Director.

Last years winners McBride Charles Ryan returned this year taking home the commercial architecture category with the PEGS Junior Boys School. John Wardle Architects walked away the architecture residential category for their Queenscliff Residence. While another John, John Douglas of JDA Design Group, picked up the interior design Public or Institutional category for Imaging @ Olympic Park.

Highlights in the interior design categories were Crumpler Doncaster by Russell & George winning interior design retail and the Yarra Lane Precinct design by Hassell scooping up the interior design hospitality.

The Awards presentation took place at Circa the Prince Deck, St Kilda, where over 20 categories were awarded across Melbourne’s diverse design landscape.

The Melbourne Design Awards are open to Melbourne based designers or designs that available on the Melbourne marketplace and recognize the best in Melbourne design over the previous year.
