Colin Fabig, CEO of LivingSocial Australia and New Zealand, says: “Being conservative fiscally has become attractive. In light of recent economic events, consumers are looking for a partner who is responsible with money. As a result, group buying sites are more popular than ever.”
In a further indication of group buying’s popularity, 50.5 per cent of respondents in the same survey said yes when asked if they would you give family a group-buying voucher for Christmas. Perth survey respondents were the most enthusiastic at 72 per cent, followed by Sydney at 57.7 per cent. Melbourne respondents were less enthusiastic with only 31.5 per cent saying they would.
When asked what would be your ideal Christmas present to receive from a group-buying site, 65 per cent of survey respondents said they would prefer holiday accommodation, 21 per cent a pampering package, 11 per cent a night out at a restaurant and 3 per cent choose men’s or women’s fashion.
“I’m not surprised holidays are the most popular. A recent industry analysis by Telsyte identifies travel deals as the largest deal category, accounting for 24 per cent of total market revenue. We picked the travel trend, launching LivingSocial Escapes in May,” Colin says.
