Gartner Accepting Nominations for 2012 Futuristic Data Centre Design Excellence Awards in Asia Pacific

Winners to be announced at the Gartner Infrastructure, Operations & Data Centre Summit in Sydney on 5-6 March 2012

Sydney, 3 January 2011 — Nominations are now open for the Gartner IODC 2012 Futuristic Data Centre Design Excellence Awards for the Asia Pacific region, which will be presented at the Gartner Infrastructure, Operations & Data Centre Summit in Sydney on 5-6 March 2012.

The Gartner IODC 2012 Futuristic Data Centre Design Excellence Awards recognise the most successful recent data centre design implementation by organisations that demonstrate high levels of business impact and overall excellence in the integration, technology and deployment of a futuristic design.

“The combination of new technologies, pressures to consolidate multiple data centres into fewer locations, the need for incremental space, changes in operational procedures, green IT initiatives, rising energy costs and potential changes in business continuity and security practices, drives constant facilities changes in the modern data centre,” said Matthew Boon, managing vice president for Gartner. “There’s a lot of innovation happening and new technology being developed in Asia Pacific that deserves to be recognised.”

Winners will be assessed based on levels of maturity and vision associated with key data centre principles thanks to advanced usage and deployment of components, such as:

·                Environmentally sustainable power and cooling technologies and management;

·                Virtualisation adoption and deployment across multiple layers of the data centre,

·                Visionary approaches to IT operations, management and processes;

·                Clear vision and understanding of the benefits of cloud computing principles and appropriate/relevant use or planning; and

·                New and visionary approaches to traditional design principles such as building design, flooring, top or end of rack cabling, ambient temperatures and leverage of non-standard power and cooling.

Nominations will be accepted from any relevant end user organisation and will close on 19 January 2012. Technology vendors and service providers are not eligible for the award, but are encouraged to nominate their customers.

The top three finalists will each present their case studies during Gartner Infrastructure, Operations & Data Centre Summit in Sydney on 5-6 March 2012. Summit attendees will vote to select the winner from these finalists, who will be announced during summit.
