Local Australian software developer Softlink has leapt their competition and introduced a full suite of mobile computing features to their customer base titled Hermes.  The Hermes communication suite will allow students and teaching professionals access to Oliver information and content though their mobile (multiple) devices.

Softlink provides 21st century resource management systems (such as Oliver) which are used in school libraries and iCentres worldwide, including over 50% of Australian schools.

“With well over fifty per cent of the school market, we know that today’s school students require their information delivered to them on the run!” said Mr Kim Duffy, Chief Executive Officer of Softlink.

“Whether they use our cloud based service or their school based systems, students want to enquire and review information through their phone, tablet computer or laptop – instantly.  A student may require access to a range of content in different formats to complete an assignment.  That content format might include video, audio clips, extracts from journals all accessed from their iPhone, iPad, Android device or PC.”

Up until now, access to this information needed to occur via a desktop system or laptop. Hermes releases the user from these constraints and provides it to students instantly on their mobile device.

The Hermes communication and integration suite includes:

·         Applications for Android and iPhones

·         Applications for iPads and Android tablets

·         Tools to scan and validate data in the knowledge base

·         Easy access to order and read OverDrive eBooks on their mobile devices

·         Easy acquisition of books on line

“Students can research and review a variety of content, select the specific material and order or - in the case of eBooks - acquire the material immediately,” said Duffy. “Hermes effectively allows the student to take the classroom home together with the data sources.”
