Melbourne “out-swooned” 11 other Australian cities in a LivingSocial campaign looking for Australia’s most romantic city judged by the responses by social media users. The campaign, run on one of Australia’s largest Facebook communities, ranked users on their responsiveness to Valentine’s Day posts and polls in the 10 days leading up to the most romantic day of the year.

LivingSocial’s Facebook community is one of Australia’s top 5 largest online communities, ideal for canvassing social media users. “We didn’t want to just ask our community what they had planned with their partners on Valentine’s Day. We wanted to judge their love for romance on their responses to our Valentine’s Day-related posts. We were impressed to see Melbournians show a true appreciation for amour by voting, commenting and liking the most for Valentine’s Day-related posts,” says Colin Fabig, CEO of LivingSocial Australia and New Zealand.

The campaign resulted in 3,703 Facebook fans clamouring to prove their armour on LivingSocial’s Facebook pages with Melbourne the top city at 1158 respondents, with Launceston coming last with 22 respondents. The results in order of most to least romantic are: Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin, Newcastle, Hobart, Wollongong, Geelong, and Launceston.
