Modern twist on a 100-year-old housing tradition proving popular in Plenty River

Announcement posted by Satterley Property 07 May 2012

Melbourne is well-known for its traditional terrace houses built at the turn of the last century and dotted around Albert Park, South Melbourne, Richmond and many other inner-city suburbs.
But the 21st century version of the terrace house is now available and selling fast at Plenty River Estate, Doreen just 27 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD.

The terraces have been developed by Homebuyers Centre in conjunction with Satterley Property Group, developers of the Plenty River estate.

These updated terraces are called “Flutes” and are a modern take on its inner-city cousins. The biggest difference is the double garage at the rear of each Flute, something that was not a high priority 100 years ago.

The “Flutes” get their name from their shape, being longer than they are wide. They comprise two or three bedrooms and two bathrooms with the added luxury of a double garage and a courtyard. However they are a fraction of the price of the 100-year-old terraces available in the city, with complete packages starting from $299,200, although this is reduced to $279,200 with the first home buyers grant.

Satterley Property Group’s Senior Development Manger, Jack Hoffmann, said sales were going well.

“The Flutes at Plenty River are the first of their kind to be built in Melbourne and have already experienced a huge take-up in Western Australia.

“The Flutes are also proving popular with a wide variety of people in Melbourne, including those looking to get into the housing market such as young couples, families looking to downsize and also retirees.

“The low maintenance of the Flutes is a key feature for many buyers. Everything from the carpet through to the letter-box and landscaping is included and ready to go so you can move straight in.

“The Flutes also use space in a smarter way, fitting everything you need in a home without compromising on natural light and living areas so buyers can maximise their lifestyle whilst reducing their carbon footprint at the same time,” Mr Hoffmann said.

The first three stages of the Plenty River Flutes have already sold out. Complete Flute packages in stage four are now selling.

The Satterley Property Group is well known for its developments in Perth. It has sold more than 50,000 lots from more than 130 residential developments. The group first moved into Victoria in 2008, developing the 1200-lot Plenty River Estate in Doreen, on Melbourne’s north-eastern outskirts. In 2011 it expanded its developments to Coburg Hill, a 400-lot development just 9 kilometres from the CBD.
