Deakin the best Aussie sparkling wine at Decanter UK awards
Deakin Estate Wines near Mildura Victoria has not only won a gold medal at London’s DecanterWorld Wine Awards 2012 announced yesterday but it was the highest scoring Australian sparkling wine – no other Australian sparkling wine won a trophy or gold. This means that Deakin Estate received asimilar score to some of the most prestigious and expensive French Champagnes such as Piper Heidsieck, Mumm and Taittinger, who won gold medals in the same class.

World Wine Awards, now in its 9th year. ‘The quality of
any awards is only as good as the quality of the individual judges, DWWA chair
Steven Spurrier said, announcing the results this morning. ‘And we have the
best judges in the world.’
Over 200 wine merchants, sommeliers, journalists and authors including 54 Masters of Wine and 11 Master Sommeliers, took part in a week of judging in April.”
