Lowndes and Whincup win to back up for MS ride

Announcement posted by MS Society of Queensland 18 Jun 2012

Super-champions of the V8s over the weekend, Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup, will have little rest before gearing up with more than 40 of TeamVodafone’s finest, swapping four wheels for two as they ride the MS Brissie to the Bay this Sunday June 24.

Craig Lowndes claimed race 13 of the V8 Supercars championship at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin over the weekend, less than a week after receiving an Order of Australia Medal.

Jamie Whincup finished second behind Lowndes who both
opted not to stop under safety car, leaving them on a two-stop strategy to ultimately take out the race.

This Sunday leaving from Musgrave Park in South Brisbane, Craig and Jamie and thousands of riders will bear the cold and ride one of the four MS Brissie to the Bay courses, all to help vital research into finding a cure for multiple sclerosis (MS).

This is the second year TeamVodafone have entered the ride and is sure not to be their last.

“Everyone who participated in last year’s event had a great time and a number of staff who didn’t ride last year were keen to join. Not to mention we are quite the competitive bunch so the will to get on board and raise more money for such a great cause was a rathe
r large incentive,” Lowndes said.

Every working day, five Australians are diagnosed with MS. It is an incurable, chronic, and often disabling disease that randomly attacks and scars the protective insulation that surrounds the nerve fibres (myelin) in the brain and spinal cord. The progress, severity and symptoms are different for everyone.

TeamVodafone have just smashed their $30,000 fundraising goal and are hoping to raise more with last minute contributions from their fans and corporate supporters.

“The ride is a good way of bringing people together for all the right reasons. It is a great initiative and it is good to know we are helping them to work towards a cure for people who unfortunately battle in life every day,” Whincup said.

TeamVodafone are just some of thousands of Queenslanders who will be riding this year’s MS Brissie to the Bay with a combined fundraising target of $700,000 for MS.

To see TeamVodafone in action or to join in on the ride, sign up now and get your mates, colleagues and family together or ride solo and help raise vital funds for Queenslanders living with MS.
