TrackITOnline and Teradici sign new Partnership to distribute Teradici’s APEX 2800 server offload card
Announcement posted by TrackITOnline 10 Jul 2012
Melbourne, 10th July 2012 – TrackITOnline, Enterprise Solutions software distributor and Teradici, the developer of the innovative PC-over-IP (PCoIP) protocol that enables a true PC experience for desktop virtualisation, today announced that TrackITOnline will distribute the APEX 2800 server offload card through its base of value-added resellers in Australia and New Zealand.
The Teradici APEX 2800 Server Offload Card insures the success of VMware View™ deployments by offloading PCoIP image encoding tasks andreducing server CPU utilisation. This empowers IT managers to protect and ensure a consistent user experience, while enabling increased VDI consolidation ratios. The APEX 2800 is aperformance enhancementto VMware View deployments that’s simple to install and setup.
The many tasks a CPU performs combined with image encoding of pixel-intensive applications, limits the number of virtual machines that can run on any one server. By offloading image encoding to a separate hardware encoding card CPU capacity can be recovered, resulting in multiple benefits.
The Teradici PCoIP server offload card dynamically offloads the most active 64 displays on the server, improving the consolidation ratio by up to 2x and reducing the cost per virtual desktop. The card also helps reduce the CPU buffer put aside in View deployments for “just-in-case” graphic peaks. The card can easily be enabled in VMware View Administrator.
IT managers could achieve consolidation ratio improvements of up to 1.2X in typical office workloads. In use cases with high levels of pixel changes, such as most users watching video at the same time, consolidation ratio improvements can be up to 2X.
“Teradici has a commitment to ensure full compatibility for all its products in the growing PCoIP and VMware End-User Computing ecosystem, so we’re happy to support VMware View™ 5.1 and VMware vSphere with the APEX 2800,” said Trent Punnett, vice president of marketing, Teradici. “As the developer of the industry’s only server offload card designed to ensure the success of VMware View PCoIP deployments, we are dedicated to ongoing development of the APEX 2800 to ensure the best end-user experience for virtual desktop deployments.”
Phil Lancaster, Director at TrackITOnline comments that “TrackITOnline has had a strong involvement in the VDI market from the beginning and has had great success with LiquidwareLabs and Xangati in this market plus recently added Virsto. This puts TrackITOnline in a very strong position to deliver the advantages that Teradici provides to VMWare View”

About PCoIP Technology
Teradici’s
PCoIP protocol is an innovative remote display technology that allows the
user’s desktop operating system, applications, and data to reside in the
datacenter, eliminating the need for traditional desktop workstations, PCs and
thin clients, and delivers an uncompromised user experience to each person,
anywhere, over any network and to any type of device without incurring the
security risks associated with having data reside in remote PCs, laptops, or
tablets. PCoIP technology provides high resolution, full frame rate 3D graphics
and high-definition media, with full USB peripheral interoperability, locally
over a LAN or remotely over a high-latency WAN. It compresses, encrypts and
encodes the entire computing experience at the datacenter and transmits it
'pixels only' across a standard IP network to secure, stateless PCoIP zero
clients, thin clients, and mobile devices.
The protocol is implemented in several software configurations, including
VMware View™, the industry leading desktop virtualization platform as well as
in silicon for hardware accelerated performance and enhanced security. A
growing ecosystem of over 30 third-party vendors provide a wide variety of
PCoIP products including server plug-in cards, rack and tower workstations,
blade PCs, zero clients, integrated monitors, and IP phones with PCoIP
capability.
