Tecala Group First to Provide Pre-Packaged VSPEX Solution for Australian Business IT Environment Transformation

Announcement posted by Tecala 26 Jul 2012

Tecala Group, the Sydney-based ICT consulting and solutions provider, is the first company in Australia to partner with EMC and offer organisations a pre-packaged virtualised IT environment based on EMC VSPEX core infrastructure complete with professional consulting services support.

EMC VSPEX is a proven, flexible architecture solution that allows IT departments to quickly and consistently deploy a virtualised infrastructure to consolidate servers, applications and desktops while helping to reduce capital and operational expenses.  It is built on highly advanced, flexible and efficient EMC unified storage and next-generation backup architecture providing for simple management, and improved IT efficiency.

Tecala has customised its own VSPEX offering by partnering with Cisco and VMware to complete its capacity to offer virtualised IT thereby eliminating any risk of vendor incompatibilities.

Pieter DeGunst, Sales and Marketing Director, Tecala Group, said, “Tecala’s VSPEX solution ensures availability of critical applications and allows for repeatable and faster deployments while eliminating the planning, sizing and configuration burden of moving from a physical to a virtual server environment.

“Our aim is to make the deployment fast and reliable but also flexible to match each customer’s individual requirement and to scale as business demands change. We will be very targeted and offer different models for different project requirements, including server virtualisation, virtual desktop and virtual applications.”

“Tecala are an ideal partner of choice for the adoption and customisation of EMC’s VSPEX solution. As an EMC Premier Partner, Tecala was one of the first trial partners to adopt and implement VSPEX prior to the main launch of the program. They have deep competency in both their technical Pre-Sales teams, who are certified on the chosen VSPEX vendor’s solutions, as well as highly qualified sales people. Added to this is their specialisation when it comes to implementing EMC, Cisco and VMware solutions. A seven-year partnership with Tecala makes them a natural fit for EMC and VSPEX,” says Brett Harris General Manager Channels, Australia and New Zealand, EMC.

Tecala’s best-in-class VSPEX technology bundle is offered in two configurations specifically targeting both core infrastructure and end user computing requirements. Core infrastructure solutions are tailored for specific 20, 50 and 100 workload environments. End User Computing solutions are tailored for specific 100, 200 and 500 virtual desktop environments.

“We are pleased to be working with Tecala and our ecosystem partners to offer Australian organisations a reliable and efficient data centre solution to accelerate their journey to the cloud,” said John Donovan, Channel Director, VMWare Australia and New Zealand.  “This proven architecture solution enables Tecala to expand their roles as trusted technology advisers to their customers.

First Customer Deployment Live on VSPEX
Tecala has already seen success for its VSPEX offering at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

“Initially, we didn't consider that a solution of the calibre of EMC, Cisco and VMware could be affordable.  What we found though was that it was competitively priced. All three are brands that we know and have confidence in, and as an organisation we like to deal with tier one vendors wherever possible,” said Luke Pannekoek, IS Manager, Seventh Day Adventist Church.

“From an architectural perspective, Tecala's recommended solution took us ahead in leaps and bounds. We've added more virtual machines per server, growing from 80 to 110 and storage has at least doubled.  There's been a significant shift in capacity due to our move from the old stack to the new, converged infrastructure solution. The use of 10 Gigabit Ethernet has improved our networking throughput and, where we used to have a lot of one Gigabit cables everywhere, we can now use a single ten Gigabit cable,” Pannekoek explains.

When it comes to disaster recovery, the changes at Seventh Day Adventist Church have been similarly dramatic.

“What we do now is replicate data between systems using a solution to make sure both EMC SANs are in sync.  This parallel operation ensures that should anything occur to interrupt the production SAN, work can switch over to the recovery SAN within moments,” says Pannekoek.

Ultimately, VSPEX was able to bring 2,500 users and 20 sites throughout the Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand online in a fraction of the time it took before.

“Cisco is very pleased to help provide our partner, Tecala Group with the EMC VSPEX integrated solution with Cisco Unified Computing System and Nexus switches to provide customers like Seventh Day Adventist Church with increased flexibility to scale their infrastructures as their business needs grow and to maximise their return on investment,” said Courtney Dodds, the data centre portfolio manager for Cisco Australia and New Zealand.
