The success of low-incomesustainablehousingis only to be expected. It simply makes sense.If you can take a building and make its running costs near zero due to the fact that reliance is taken off costly resources such as electricity and water – in terms of long-term affordability, nothing else compares. That is removing the positive aspects that come with sustainable living from a social/community-orientated viewpoint.
It is not brain surgery – yet it seems that this notion is only just now sinking in to many in government and industry positions.
To their credit, the Canadian industry at large has acknowledged the benefits of such developments.
Only just receiving its officially opening by Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter and Senator Gerald J. Comeau on behalf of Diane Finley, Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is the $685,000 Chester-based four-unit affordable housing development. The development has been made specifically with senior citizens and persons with mobility impairments in mind.
