High Resolution Vertical Mapping for Contaminated Sites

Announcement posted by Numac Drilling Services Australia 20 Aug 2012

Numacis a specialist contractor of Drilling, Hazardous Facility Demolition, Decommissioning and Installation of Product Storage Systems & Remediation Systems to Professional Consulting firms across a broad range of industry sectors. Our technical expertise is enhanced by our enthusiasm for innovation, resulting in clever and efficient solutions for a diverse range of client needs.

In line with our desire for innovation, Numac is pleased to announce the arrival of our newestHigh Resolution Vertical Mappingfor contaminated site assessments, theMembrane Interface Probe (MIP). The MIP is a multi-purpose tool that utilizes high resolution, real time, data collection of subsurface contamination. Many more data points (65 per meter) can be collected very quickly across a site to delineate horizontal and vertical contamination, and in turn rapidly develop conceptual site models. With high resolution data, a much more precise picture of natural preferential pathways and contaminant distribution is shown.

Data collected from MIP technology are then presented in real time 2D and 3D visualizations that allow for an auditor to watch a contaminant plume “take shape” as work proceeds at the site. Armed with this data, plume volumes can be calculated and much more focused and cost effective remedial strategies can be implemented.
Other technologies that Numac will soon offer is Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) which is used for mapping of LNAPL plumes, as well as the Hydraulic Profiling Tool (HPT) a tool used for obtaining lithologic and hydraulic properties of the subsurface. By utilizing all three of these technologies at a site, and then paired with real-time 2D and 3D graphics, delineation and subsequent remediation of a contaminated site can proceed much more quickly than that of the traditional cycle of well installation, sample analysis, report writing, and site re-visits.
