ReviveR Bar Brings a New Sense of Community to Gosford through Classic Cocktails

Announcement posted by the Marketing Muscle 27 Aug 2012

The newest Third Place on the NSW Central Coast
ReviveR, Gosford’s new, highly anticipated specialty cocktail bar is officially open for business, bringing a fresh concept, world class drinks, and a unique environment to the NSW Central Coast. The bar, rich with personality was founded out of a true love for classic cocktails, and the absence of a sophisticated venue in the area where people could relax, share stories and enjoy a human connection.

The menu takes patrons back into history, with accounts of obscure classics, cult hits, and old favourites. Standouts include the Harvey Wallbanger, Blood and Sand, Mary Pickford, and the bar’s namesake cocktail, the Corpse ReviveR. Guests will also find a careful selection of wines, beers, ciders and hearty nibbles.

Owner Gordon Ryan was inspired to start ReviveR with his partner Amanda after years of travelling around the world for work, usually alone. On the road, he related to the notion of a third place, a term coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg in his 1990 book The Great Good Place, to describe the “anchor” of community life, a social surrounding separate from home (the first place) and work (the second place), where people can establish a sense of place.

“The third places I found for myself while on the road have been a huge driving force behind the ReviveR concept,” says Ryan. “I was so inspired to create and share a quality venue in Gosford where people could relax, connect, and feel like part of a community."

The atmosphere is nothing short of unique, from the mix of old and new furnishings, to the eclectic collection of stemware found at antique shops. The large community table offers a perfect place to chat with old friends, and to welcome new ones.

The story of ReviveR is not complete without mention of legendary US bartender Murray Stenson (Best Bartender in America, 2010), from the owner’s favourite third place, Zig Zag Caf in Seattle. Ryan was inspired by Stenson’s execution of sophisticated classics including The Last Word, a prohibition-era cocktail resurrected by none other than Stenson in 2004. Ryan brought the obscure cocktail home so his patrons could be among the few in Australia to enjoy it.

Stenson’s presence is also felt beyond the menu. In Seattle, Stenson wrote the recipe for the Corpse ReviveR for Ryan on a coaster. Now the bar’s namesake cocktail, the handwritten note serves as a cherished part of the bar’s history and appears on the wall of the ReviveR. This is just one example of the richness of stories that will be shared with patrons over time. One particularly spooky story grants even greater significance to why the bar was named after the Corpse Reviver. Curious yet?

About ReviveR

ReviveR is the first classic cocktail bar in Gosford, NSW, offering a welcoming, sophisticated venue for enjoying world class drinks, excellent service, and engaging conversation. The concept of the “third place,” a term coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg to describe an “anchor” of community life outside the two usual environments of home and work, inspired owner Gordon Ryan to create ReviveR – a quality venue where people can come together, relax, and connect with others.
