Eight land speed records tumble in Maine

Announcement posted by the Marketing Muscle 05 Sep 2012

TLN Motorsports continues to dominate in Maine

The September 01-02nd Loring Timing Associations "Harvest Event" again saw Greg Neal pilot the TLN Motorsports to success setting multiple Land Speed records.  The final count for the event was 8 new LTA LSR National records.

At this event the LTA was certifying both the speed at the 1-mile and the 1.5-mile.   The TLN Motorsports’ Kawasaki ZX-10R had a fastest speed in the standing mile of 204.791 mph, making it the fastest standing mile run that bike has ever made.  The fastest 1.5-mile speed was 206.542 mph that was the fastest N/A 1000cc run of the event.

“It was one of the most difficult and rewarding weekends in many years. It didn’t go all our way.  But nothing good ever comes easy does it?  We were far from satisfied by the end of Day 1 as we knew we could go faster” rider Greg Neal said.  The team had to deal with challenging weather conditions (cold temperatures and a 12-16 mph head wind on Saturday), and then Kawasaki ZX-10R motorcycle developed an oil leak.  Three gearing changes, an oil leak repair, numerous AFR adjustments and a refusal to give in saw Neal set three new records by the end of Saturday.

The promised tail wind did not turn up on Sunday with cold temperatures playing havoc with AFR and the changing winds lead to more gearing changes.  Rear tire pressures were pumped up to 65 psi to try and pull a larger gear.  The cold temperatures of 40 degrees to start the day and high tire pressures lead to spinning up on all the shifts.  The team continued to adjust and found the right package by early afternoon.  Three more records were set as the ZX-10R was running consistent standing miles of 202 mph and standing 1.5 miles of 204 mph.

One final adjustment was made and the two fastest speeds of the event were set bringing the Neal’s total of new LTA LSR National records to eight.  One final run was attempted and the ZX-10 ran out of fuel about ½ mile after the traps ending the day and the event.  Hard work and determination had paid off.Just seven weeks prior TLN Motorsports had lost their ZX-6rr with a blown engine.  Many hours of work and all of the rare parts were found and the bike will come back to life this week.  Adversity always makes success so much sweeter.

The big HP from the TLN Motorsports engines is thanks to KWS Motorsports.  Brock's Performance provides the exhaust and BST Carbon Fiber wheels.  All Animal Control funds our travels.  Vortex Racing, World Wide Bearings, Web Cams, Ballistic Batteries, VP Racing fuels, Pit Bull and Motul Lubricants also contribute greatly to TLN Motorsports success. Thanks to dragbike.com for all the coverage.

Next on the schedule is the Throttle Nation magazine, Top Speed Challenge in Wilmington, Ohio on September 29-30th.  Team Owner Tracy Neal has said "We will defend our 650cc and 1000cc class championships in just over 3 weeks".  I wouldn't bet against it.
