Introducing the new Cocoon Family speaker docks from Denon

The Cocoon Family is comprised of two models, the Cocoon Home (DSD500) and Cocoon Portable (DSD300). Both models are carefully engineered to deliver best-in-class audio fidelity with unparalleled connectivity options. In addition to use with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, the speaker can also be connected to other devices via the line-in port at the rear or integrated into the home network for music and internet radio streaming.

Sculptured design meets innovative technology
The name “Cocoon” is derived from its shape which has been designed to add style and sophistication to any listening environment. It is has been made to captivate the eyes with its beautiful and charming three-dimensional design and in opposition to what consumers expect from Hi-Fi equipment.

The luxurious feel comes from the high quality fabric covers as well as the heavy aluminium base and the double shot injected chassis. The casing consists of a high polish transparent plastic layer above a full coloured layer, resulting in a deep high gloss finish.

The harmonious design encases the latest technologies in high end sound, expertly engineered with 100 years of audio experience. The high quality internal components are tuned to deliver a clear and balanced listening experience while also delivering the highs and lows that modern music demands.

The shape of the Cocoon is not only a stylistic choice but is also the reason for its powerful sound. A two-way speaker system, large acoustic chamber, Denon Dual Layer Cones, bass ports and Denon amplification, combined with an advanced DSP, optimise the Cocoon acoustically. In addition, with its ergonomic remote control, it is also easy to operate while the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is docked. The remote comes in the same “Cocoon” shape and is also useful when the user wants to listen to the built-in internet radio or external source.

A testament to its impressive and unique design, the Cocoon Family dock speakers have garnered prestigious design awards including a Red Dot design award for Product Design in 2012 and an International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for 2012.  

The Cocoon Portable won the Red Dot award as they found it to be "impressive with its distinctively sculptural design language. From a functional perspective, the jury was particularly pleased with the retractable and extendable connector and the remote control that can be stowed away at the back.”   

Unparalleled Connectivity
In addition to the unique design, the Cocoon also utilises innovative connectivity technologies including 'Netlink' which automatically connects the Cocoon to the wireless home network of the user on initialisation. This allows an effortless and distinctive always-connected experience including internet radio functionality (with three station presets).

The Cocoon also supports a wide range of audio formats streamed from a PC, Mac or NAS drive including Airplay support. While streaming audio is a common feature on many speaker systems, the difference with the Cocoon is that it is able to do so with clear High Fidelity audio. Furthermore, using AirPlay it is possible to stream music to multiple Cocoons simultaneously while using iTunes. Using the free-of-charge Denon Cocoon App on mobile devices, every function can be controlled giving the consumer a hands free and roaming experience.

Connectivity, ease of set-up, intuitive use and wireless audio streaming are important for potential buyers and is therefore something that Denon has put a great deal of effort into. The Cocoon Family
The first generation of the Cocoon is made up of two models: the Cocoon Home and the Cocoon Portable. The Cocoon Home comes in a white or black finish and 25% smaller than the Home version, the Cocoon Portable is available only in black.

The Cocoon Portable has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery ensuring up to five hours of playback time. The grille is made of reinforced metal and the chassis is water resistant with rubberised buttons protect from sand and dust. It even has a compartment at the rear for storing the remote control. These features make the Cocoon Portable ideal to take wherever the user wants to go to enjoy a brand new sound experience.
