Edifys new Natural Language Solutions Group enhances its position as a leading global provider of voice recognition consulting services

The group gives customers access to speech applications consultant, speech scientists and natural language experts
Edify Corporation, an S1 Company, has announced the formation of its new Natural Language Solutions Group (NLSG). Edifys NLSG gives customers access to an elite team of speech applications consultants, speech scientists and natural language experts as well as the unique ability to rapidly build and deliver natural language solutions.

We formed the Natural Language Solutions Group to provide our customers with expertise in speech and language technologies, said Matt Carroll, Country Manager for Edify Australia.

Built around former Atomic Tangerine personnel, tools and methodologies as well as its own in-house experts and technology, the new group strengthens Edifys position as the leader in natural language solutions for speech recognition and advanced CRM applications.


About NLSG
The Edify NLSG team is led by Andrew Shaw, with Richard Winski, Ph.D, Silke Witt-Ehsani, Ph.D, and Larry Piano, who originally met and worked together at SRI International where they carried out a series of ground breaking consulting assignments in the application of natural language speech recognition for large-scale businesses. Founded in 1946, SRIs mission is its commitment to the discovery and application of science and technology for knowledge, commerce, prosperity and peace.

SRI is a non-profit scientific research institute with wholly owned subsidiaries. SRI International later spun off both Nuance Communication and Atomic Tangerine to commercialise its pioneering work in speech recognition software.

Joining the NLSG from Edify are Jeff Kosa and Michael Abt, who have been instrumental in developing Edifys Natural Language Dialog Objects. These reusable, pre-built, pre-tested grammars, work flows and applications enable Edify solutions to achieve quick time-to-market. It also allows for the separation of application logic from specific third-party vendor technologies like speech recognition and text-to-speech. Edifys open integration platform allows its customers to select from multiple best-of-breed technologies while maintaining consistency in their business logic. This protects the customers investment in their linguistic processing rules and speech grammars. Kosa and Abts work with Edifys Natural Language Dialog Objects greatly enhance the NLSGs team value to Edify customers.

Completing the NLSG is a team of computational linguists from Edify. This team is involved in the study of language and text-based communications.

Edify customers will have the opportunity to discuss in-depth technical issues with the Natural Language Solutions Group at Edifys User Conference Edification 2002, being held January 13 - 17, in Monterey, California. At Edification 2002, the NLSG will be interacting with attendees and presenting topics including Complex Voice Recognition Systems, Successful Speech Grammar Design, Statistical Language Modelling as well as additional topics.
