SYDNEY, 16 January, 2013 — Canon Australia announced today the launch of two new fixed-focal-length EF Cinema Lenses: the CN-E14mm T3.1 L F and CN-E135mm T2.2 L F (for EF mounts). Featuring exceptional optical performance, the two new lenses support a range of motion picture and video production applications, including 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) production standards.
The new Canon CN-E14mm T3.1 L F and CN-E135mm T2.2 L F prime lenses deliver outstanding optical performance, supporting use with 4K-resolution cameras. Offering compatibility with 35mm full-frame sensors, the lenses can be paired with not only high-end digital SLR cameras, but also digital cinema cameras equipped with industry-standard-size Super 35mm-equivalent sensors, including Canon’s EF-mount Cinema EOS digital cinema camera line-up, as well EF-mount cameras incorporating APS-H-size or APS-C-size sensors.

Employing such materials as UD (ultra-low dispersion) glass, effective in eliminating chromatic aberration, and large-diameter aspherical lens elements,* the two new EF Cinema prime lenses achieve high-resolution imaging from the centre of the frame to the outer edges. The lenses deliver colour reproduction performance optimised for cinematic applications in harmony with that of other EF Cinema Lens-series models, and are each equipped with an 11-blade aperture diaphragm for soft, attractive blur characteristics. Featuring compact, lightweight body designs, the CN-E14mm T3.1 L F and CN-E135mm T2.2 L F weigh only 1.2 kg and 1.4 kg, respectively.
The Canon CN-E14mm T3.1 L F and CN-E135mm T2.2 L F each include a focus ring that can be rotated up to approximately 300 degrees to enable minute changes in focus. In addition, the focus and aperture values are displayed at an angle on each side of the lens’s exterior casings to ensure visibility when users are positioned behind the camera. A future firmware update for the EOS C300, EOS C500 and EOS-1D C will allow data regarding the lens name and shooting settings to be sent to the camera on which the lens is mounted through the electronic connection in the lens mount, enabling the camera to automatically correct for uneven peripheral illumination.
Through the comprehensive strength of Canon’s EF Cinema zoom and prime lenses, the company will support the diverse imaging creation needs of the motion-picture and other digital high-resolution production industries, contributing to further expanding the possibilities in visual expression and the development of cinematic culture.
Canon will be displaying the two new fixed-focal-length lenses during the U.S. Sundance Film Festival, one of the largest independent film festivals in the world, which will be held in Park City, Utah, from January 17 to 27, 2013.
The Canon CN-E14mm T3.1 L F and Canon CN-E135mm T2.2 L F will be available in Australia from mid April and late May, respectively, with pricing set at dealer discretion.
