A revolutionary new Australian-developed product designed for use in aerial fighting of wildfires will make its European debut this month at the Aix en Provence aerial firefighting conference in France.
Business Development Manager David Cant said BioCentral Laboratories had spent more than a decade developing BlazeTamer380™ and testing it in a range of environments and conditions.
“BlazeTamer380™ is a concentrate that uses linear polymer technology which when mixed with fresh or sea water has an outstanding fire suppressant capability – making it ideal for application directly onto a fire or in the path of a wildfire as a containment measure,” Mr Cant said.
“Because the polymer technology binds water molecules together it is perfect for use in aerial fighting and uses up to 60% less water to extinguish fires compared with other options on the market,” he said.
“This is a South Australian developed product that has taken more than $2m and ten years to perfect and has the potential to change the way fire authorities combat wildfires on an international scale.”
Mr Cant said BlazeTamer380™ offered important green credentials in addition to its suppression capabilities because the polymer technology breaks down without leaving any residue, and is proven to not harm animals and plants, contaminate water sources or promote algae growth.
“BlazeTamer380™ achieved a major development milestone by becoming the first product of its type to successfully pass all performance, corrosion and toxicity tests specified by the USDA-FS Standards Compliance for Water Enhancers 5100-306a,” Mr Cant said.
“We have tested it on a range of fire types, including oil, aviation fuel, and various types of scrub and timber and the results show a fast knock-down, minimal rekindling and an outstanding ability to be used as a containment measure in advance of a fire,” he said.
“That means BlazeTamer380™ offers fire authorities the ability to better protect lives, homes and businesses around the world from the impact of wildfires and significantly reduce the devastation they typically cause to the environment.”
The two day conference involves more than 250 delegates from 23 countries and brings together the aerial firefighting community with international government procurement and operational officers, civil organisations, international manufacturers, operators and service providers to discuss and debate the latest techniques, technologies and platforms available to tackle the threat of wildfires from the air.
During the conference, attendees will be able to see the capabilities of BlazeTamer380™ first hand when it is used during a live flying demonstration and a wildfire scenario.
As an expert in the scientific application of polymers, BioCentral Laboratories manufactures and distributes a range of products for the fire fighting, agricultural, mining, road construction and metal machining industries.
