Starlight's biggest annual fundraising event - Friday 3 May

Tomorrow, the Starlight Children’s Foundation will celebrate 25 years of transforming the experience of hospitalisation and treatment for seriously ill children across Australia, on Starlight Day on Friday 3 May.

Held nationally, Starlight Day is Starlight's biggest annual fundraising event and aims to raise $1.5 million to help Starlight 'Shine On' and continue supporting the long-term wellbeing and resilience of seriously ill children and their families into the future.

An army of more than 2,500 volunteers will hit the streets around the country on Starlight Day to sell Starlight merchandise and collect donations in shopping centres, central business districts and train stations.

Starlight Chief Executive, Louise Baxter said: "We urgently need your help on Starlight Day, so we can continue to transform the lives of seriously ill kids by lifting their spirits and giving them an opportunity to laugh and play, while improving their wellbeing and resilience.

"Starlight receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of the public to deliver its many innovative programs, which provide distraction and relief for thousands of sick kids who are living with the pain and fear that comes with serious illness."

Starlight's programs include Captain Starlight and the Starlight Express Rooms, medical-free havens giving sick kids an escape from the daily stress of hospital life; Livewire, the peer-to-peer support program, giving chronically ill adolescents support; and Starlight’s Wish Granting Program, which will grant its 8,000th life-changing wish in 2013.

Starlight’s programs are considered by health professionals to be integral to the total care of thousands of chronically ill children and young people across Australia and are based on the World Health Organisation’s social model of health to support wellbeing and resilience.

Starlight Day merchandise available nationally, includes Starlight flashing wands ($5), glittering and silver pens ($5), Dinosaur Designs key rings ($5), silver pins ($5), gold pins ($20), bags ($2) and Starlight sticker packs ($5)

Aside from buying merchandise, donations can be made at www.starlightday.org.au, by calling 1300 727 827, or bidding for a unique money-can’t buy experience in Starlight’s Bids For The Kids auction.

Starlight Day is proudly supported by EB Games, Big W, Myer, Hasbro and Nine Entertainment Co. and GPYR who have continued to support the Starlight Children's Foundation throughout the last 25 years.
