Space Camp at Free Air Show 6th October

Announcement posted by Miniature Aero Sports NSW 27 Sep 2013

Long weekend Opportunity for Families and it is free!

SYDNEY: 27 September 2013 – Miniature Aero Sports NSW (MAS) is holding its annual Air Show on Sunday 6th October at the Hawkesbury Model Aero Sports Bandon Road, Vineyard, NSW.  This year Jackie Slaviero will be presenting ‘Space Camp’, a presentation of a program that is available to kids and adults that she co-ordinates in Australia.

Space Camp uses space to excite and educate children and adults of all ages.  With maths, science and technology participants develop teamwork, self-confidence and communication experiencing state-of-the-art simulations, missions, rocket building and robotics,” said Ms Slaviero.

“The Space Camp is an adventure that gives participants everything they need to know about Space Shuttle Systems and life aboard the Orbiter and Space Station. They get to eat space food, learn to sleep in space and even how to go to the bathroom in space!”

“In addition to a Shuttle Mission, space track campers go through extensive Mars training to prepare for interplanetary travel. They learn about the planet, its soil, geology, climate and atmosphere. They conduct experiments on the soil and rocks collected, as well as keeping everything on board the Mars Outpost running smoothly. Once the mission is complete, it is time to head home to Earth. Aviation also play a part.   They teach flight dynamics, wilderness survival, teamwork, and spend time in our high-performance jet fighter simulators, providing skills American fighter pilots use to rule the skies. They teach what makes an airplane fly the principles of flight, not in the classroom, but standing next to an F-16 or F-14! This is the best learning environment in the world”, said Ms Slaviero.

Robert Carpenter, President of Miniature Aero Sports NSW, said that the Vineyard field was excited about having Space Camp presenting at the Air Show on Sunday 6th October, “This world class program is amazing.  The Space Camp program is something that we would not see here in Australia.  If we think that aviation is a little more than 110 years old and space travel is just over 50 years old the horizon of aviation, flight and space travel is much greater for our children.  We want families to hear what is happening in the Space Camp program.  If we can spark the imagination of just a few children then it was worth it. “

“The Air Show is a community event where we will also be introducing families to our sport of aviation.  We will be demonstrating all types of aircraft including jets, military aircraft, aerobatic aircraft, helicopters, aero towing of gliders, trainer aircraft, and control line demonstrations, with the Space Camp and other presentation at the field,” said Mr Carpenter.

The event is free and parking is a gold coin.
