Award accolades for Lifestyle Bakery's new Soft 'n' Light Bread range

Announcement posted by Leverage PR 02 Dec 2013

Lifestyle Bakery’s new gluten-free Soft ‘n’ Light bread range has risen to the top of this year’s South Australian Food Industry Awards, achieving two prestigious Award wins and being a finalist in a third category.

LifeStyle Bakery Director, Michael Horrocks said it was rewarding to see the Soft ’n’ Light range win the Foodland SA New Product Award and the SARDI Innovation Award, and emerge as runner-up in the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society Best Practice Award.

“We conducted hundreds of trials using different ingredients over more than six months before we were satisfied with the result, and since introducing the range into the market in January we have been stunned at the take-up by consumers,” Mr Horrocks said.

“People wanted a gluten-free bread that wasn’t crumbly and offered the taste and texture of conventional bread, and we knew that we had created a winning product that was without peer in the market,” he said.

“We also invested in developing a new modified atmosphere inner pack that offers a 14 day shelf life, which then inserts into a resealable poly bag outer so that the retailer and the consumer both benefit from an extended shelf life in a pack that has first class shelf presence.”

Aligning with the introduction of the new range, Mr Horrocks said LifeStyle Bakery reduced its number of product varieties from 12 to 7, but has since seen sales increase by more than 400%.

“These accolades in the SA Food Industry Awards pay testament to the entire LifeStyle Bakery team, which invested – and continues to invest - significant time and effort into developing a bread range that can be enjoyed by all Australians,” Mr Horrocks said.

“We have been contacted by people that have welcomed the new Soft ‘n’ Light range and have said that it now offers them a tasty and convenient bread option that can be used to make fresh sandwiches and suits their own health circumstances,” he said.

“We also are very thankful for the support offered to us by the many independent, speciality stores, IGA, Foodland, Coles and Woolworth’s supermarkets.”

The new Soft ‘n’ Light range includes a White Loaf, Chia and Quinoa, Fruit and a Soy Linseed loaf.

“It has an important part of our secret to success to ensure we constantly improve our products and foster a commitment to innovation across our business, and that approach is now seeing us leader the market on a national level,” Mr Horrocks said.
