Announcement posted by Access Public Relations 09 Dec 2013

December 6, 2013: Entries are now open for Sydney’s ultimate sporting weekend and thousands are again expected to join in The Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run and The Sydney Morning Herald Cole Classic on Saturday, February 1and Sunday, February 2, 2014, respectively.

The popular, family-friendly events invite participants of all levels to take part in a fun-filled weekend featuring the Dee Why to Manly Sun Run - an event which boasts a new 10km course on top of its existing 6.7km course, showcasing the best of Sydney’s Northern Beaches – and one of Australia’s largest ocean swims, the iconic Cole Classic with 1km, 2km and 9km swims.

Participants are encouraged to raise much-needed funds for more than 800 charities across Australia, including the Dee Why and Manly Surf Life Saving Clubs – with the fundraising target set this year at $200,000.

Sun Run (Saturday, February 1)

Sydney’s favourite summer fun run is now in its fourth year and is expected to attract more than 10,000 participants in 2014.

Runners can challenge themselves on the new 10km course which showcases spectacular beach views from Dee Why to Manly. Starting at 6:30am, the Sun Run will begin at The Strand in Dee Why and finish on The Steyne at Manly Beach with all finishers receiving a commemorative medal.

Runners, joggers, wheelchairs, pushers and walkers are all encouraged to take up the Sun Run challenge!

Cole Classic (Sunday, February 2)

Now in its 31st year, the Cole Classic is Australia’s largest ocean swim, with more than 6,000 people expected to take part.

The 1km, 2km and 9km swims will start from Shelly Beach and finish at Manly Beach (subject to conditions) with all finishers receiving a commemorative medal. Category winners and place getters will be awarded the famous Cole Plates.

Race director, Rebecca Wilmer, said: “The Sun Run and Cole Classic events together represent the ultimate sporting weekend for Sydneysiders – a great mix of sport and fun.

Whether you’re a serious runner or just want to jump in the water for a worthy cause on a warm summer day, there’s something for everyone.”

Entries are now open for both events, please visit www.sunrun.com.au or www.coleclassic.com for more details.
