Exciting offering of premium Mezcals hits Australian shores

The once little known spirit distilled from agave plants native to Mexico’s Oaxaca and surrounding regions, Mezcal has experienced a massive boom in popularity over recent years. Australia is now one of the fastest growing Mezcal markets and distributor Brands2Bars has the range to satisfy this demand. Brands2Bars have recently introduced three Mezcals into their portfolio:

Zaguii:

Origin: San Juan Del Rio, Oaxaca, Mexico        Info: Joven / 750ml / 40%

‘Dzagui o Zaguii’ is the name given to the spirit of rain and celestial water for the Mixtec culture. Whilst the brand surrounds itself in myth, the time honoured tradition of Mezcal as we know it, is here and true in every sense. Using 100% espadin agave aged 6 to 7 years, it is cultivated, harvested and copper pot distilled in a centuries old process according to traditions. The final product is sweet lush agave flavour with rich warm smoke.

Derrumbes:

Origin: Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, Mexico               Info: Joven / 700ml / 48%

Derrumbes Mezcal is created from 100% agave Angustifolia Haw by third generation Maestro Mezcalero, Javier Mateo in the village of Santiago Matatlan. A significant aspect of the production of this mezcal is the water source used. A local spring in Mitla provides the light minerality which allows the fruitful style of angustifolia haw from this region to present itself in the most delicate manner. Also, the use of "encino negro" wood with which Mateo and family have cooked their agave for decades is paramount for the fine profile of Mezcal Derrumbes, which seamlessly combines the elements of elegance and character, without being overpowered by smokiness, but achieving instead just the right amount to frame the delicacy of aromas.

Los Amantes:

Origin: Tlacolula, Oaxaca, Mexico                   Info: Joven & Reposado / 750ml / 40%

Los Amantes Joven & Reposado are the result of Guillermo Olguín and Ignacio Carballido’s exhaustive search of unique mezcals from small villages around the Oaxaca region. It is considered to be one of the best mezcals from Oaxaca, carrying the COMERCAM certification, which guarantees the commitment to quality and flavor through the use of traditional production methods and 100% agave. Traditional underground pit-smoking and triple distillation gives the mezcal exceptional smoothness and complexity. Los Amantes translates to “The Lovers” and it is named for an ancient Aztec legend, the Legend of Mayahuel, which describes the origins of mezcal.
