Green Planet Grass Fights Climate Change One Lawn at a Time

Announcement posted by Green Planet Grass 12 Feb 2014

Supplier of artificial grass in Perth reveals why many are turning to Green Planet Grass in the face of longer and more frequent heatwaves.
Perth, WA, 12 February 2014 - Recently, the Climate Council gave reporters a “sneak peak” at the progress of a report tentatively called “Australian Heatwaves.” The report about the fact that heatwaves have become more frequent and of longer duration than at any time in history was co-authored by Professor Will Stefan, Dr Sarah Perkins and Professor Lesley Hughes.

All three authors conclude that statistics show an undeniable connection between the proliferation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and an increase in heatwaves, which give statistical backing to the theory of climate change. All authors feel that “human-induced climate change” is here and will get worse before it gets better.

Heatwaves now occur up to two weeks earlier than in past eras. In addition, the number of record heat days has gone up 200% in a 50-year period. Scientists require that a heatwave fit certain criteria to be called  heatwave. They must be for at least three successive days. The temperatures must be in the top 10% of days relative to their place on the calendar.

In a period covering ten years, heat records have been broken three times as many times as cold records in Australia. Professor Stefan feels that the amount of record-breaking heat is too high to be explained off as a statistical variation, saying that the statistics and evidence inferring that “human induced climate change” is responsible for the record heat “are very, very clear.”

Dr Perkins concurs with Professor Stefan, and Professor Hughes goes so far as to predict that more climate changes and more prolonged heatwaves will have serious effects on both infrastructure and health, referring to heatwaves as “the silent killer.”

Statistically, approximately 1,000 Australians are killed by heatwaves each year. The elderly and children are those most susceptible to adverse effects. The only “good news” for Australians is that heatwaves are more fatal in climates where people aren’t prepared. A European heatwave in 2003 killed upward of 70,000 people while a 2010 heatwave in Russia killed as many as 50,000.

In 2014 alone, Adelaide and Melbourne have seen bushfires and power outages due to heatwaves. In addition, outdoor play in the Australian Open tennis tournament was halted due to excessive heat.

How Green Planet Grass Helps Fight Climate Change While Looking Great

Green Planet Grass manufactures environmentally responsible artificial grass. Their mission is to have minimal negative effect on the environment and it’s reflected in their use of recycled and recyclable materials for their products. In addition, Green Planet Grass takes every possible precaution to reduce their carbon footprint, thus reducing the rate at which greenhouse gases are dumped into the atmosphere.

In addition, artificial grass is “greener” than a natural lawn, both literally and figuratively. An artificial lawn stays green 365 days a year with no watering, no mowing, no fertilisers and no other chemicals. This means that water is conserved while no toxic chemicals are produced for weeding or lawn care agents. In addition, no mowing means no petrol or fumes are released into the atmosphere.

According to Justin Everley, Director of Green Planet Grass, “More people are choosing Green Planet Grass every day. It saves them time, money and effort while helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

Green Planet Grass supplies and installs artificial grass. They are Australian owned and located in Perth. To learn more about their environmentally responsible synthetic grass, call (08) 9209 2669 or visit their website: http://www.greenplanetgrassperth.com.au/.
