Finally a solution for the career woman preparing for motherhood

Announcement posted by Nourish Perinatal Wellness 12 Mar 2014

For the first time, the career-focused woman (and the career-focused partner with similar time and tolerance limitations), have the ability to prepare for parenthood when they want and where they want.

Ask any professional woman what they wish that had more of and inevitability the answer is “time”. And when she decides to start a family, the balancing act gets even more complicated. While many are overjoyed with the prospect of knocking off early for their weekly antenatal class, for some it’s a sheer inconvenience. With their multi-tasking skills already to the max, a birthing class is simply another appointment to try and squeeze in to their already busy agenda. When Melissa Grant was preparing for the birth of her first baby, she was overwhelmed at the prospect. “I worked long hours and struggled to find a class that conformed to my schedule,’’ Melissa says. “Selfishly I also didn’t want to spend my precious time subjected to other people’s questions and commentary. Of course I wanted all the facts but I needed the delivery to be efficient and I wanted the opportunity to review the material in my own time.” Melissa’s experience prompted her to develop Nourish Perinatal Wellness – a series of online childbirth and early parenting videos, downloadable directly from the website and compatible smart connected devices. For the first time, the career-focused woman (and the career-focused partner with similar time and tolerance limitations), have the ability to prepare for labour, birth and early days with baby when they want and where they want.

Four comprehensive video workshops cover; childbirth preparation; breastfeeding; and pre and postnatal fitness. A qualified professional (who also happens to be a modern mum) delivers the content of each workshop.

Melissa, Chief Mama of Nourish, believes the ability for today’s professional, time-poor woman to learn in her own time and at her own pace, removes the stress of competing priorities and helps her better manage the juggling act of a career and starting a family. She also believes it will lead to better birthing outcomes as women will feel more confident and prepared going into their first birth experience – in comparison to missing classes altogether because they couldn’t afford the time.

The other unique feature is because the videos are compatible with smart devices, soon-to-be parents can watch the videos wherever they like – at home, in transit to and from work or in between meetings. “This was a deal breaker,” says Melissa, “…most people, like me, are joined at the hip to their smartphone!”

Nourished launched less than 12 month ago and has proven to be a popular alternative and complement to hospital-led classes. Suzi Carrington and her husband David used the videos in addition to their hospital classes and had this to say about their experience; “…in terms of content, the videos were much more comprehensive than our hospital antentatal class. The whole feel is also much more up to date. We found the structure to be fantastic – great to see it in a linear format as our hospital class jumped around and really interfered with our understanding of how and when you are supposed to head into the hospital.”

The website also hosts an extensive library of free pregnancy and birth-related audio podcasts and articles.
