How to Eliminate Stains at home

Announcement posted by Deluxe Products 14 Apr 2014

Stains are simply a part of life. It’s almost impossible to avoid them. Although some stains such as clothing stains can be stubborn, they can be removed quickly if acted on quickly. The sooner you get to the stain, the more likely you are to get it out. Here are some tips on removing stubborn stains from your clothes and home.

Blot and Scoop

When you spill liquid of any sort, blot it with a cloth. Work from the outside in so you don't spread the stain.

When solid liquids such as sauce is spilt, scoop it up with a dull-edged knife before blotting away the excess.

Sprinkle and Dab

Sprinkle any oily stains with cornstarch. Wait 10 to 15 minutes and then scrape it off.

Don’t rub or press stains. Dab it with cool water. This will lighten most spots and remove others altogether.

How to Whiten With Lemon

Lemon has many properties that make it a powerful, natural cleaner. Lemons can actually whiten napkins, linens and even socks. Fill a pot with water and add a few slices of fresh lemon. Bring it to a boil. Turn off the heat, add linens (make sure you don’t overload the saucepan), and let soak for up to an hour. Launder as usual. For extra brightening, spread them out in the sunlight to dry.

How to Launder With Baking Soda

Baking soda is an effective cleaner, deodorizer, and fabric softener for the home. To make your own power paste, mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda and an equal amount of water. Apply this to stains to absorb odour and break down grease.

How to Launder With White Vinegar

Naturally acidic, white vinegar cuts grease, softens water, and whitens fabrics when added to the rinse water. Depending on the size of the load, add anywhere from 1/8 cup to 1/2 cup.

How to Eliminate Static Cling

Having static in your clothes is very annoying so follow this tip to remove static you’re your clothes. Remove clothes from the dryer while slightly damp and allow to air dry. Humidifiers are inexpensive and can cut down on electrical charges by putting moisture into the air.

If your clothes are clinging to you with static, mist the air with water from a spray bottle, then walk through it to discharge the static. Antistatic spray coats the surface of the fabric with salts that absorb moisture in the air. Dryer sheets also help inhibit static, better than fabric softeners.

How to Wash Baby Clothes

When you bring your newborn home from the hospital, it’s important to know how to properly clean their clothes as harsh detergents can irritate newborn skin. Soaps such as Lux are made to leave fabric soft, and they contain little additives that can cause irritation. But they are less alkaline than detergents so they don't have strong cleaning properties. This means you might have to live with a few stains, especially in the early months. When treating stains, use the mildest product to do the job.
