Apps to use to help you reduce your power usage

Announcement posted by Amp'd Electrical & Solar 23 Apr 2014

While Angry Bird may be monopolising your iPhone at the moment, we’ve got some other apps that will keep your fingers busy and help you reduce your power usage at the same time!

EnergySaver

EnergySaver is a mobile app for iOS and Android platforms that offers a great way to track your energy usage and helps you save on high home energy bills. Using a “profile-analyse-save” process, the app calculates energy consumption (electric, gas, water) for each of the appliances in your home, pinpointing problem areas. Households can then change their consumption habits for meaningful savings, efficient energy consumption and a positive environmental impact.

Virtual Energy Audit

Virtual Energy Audit from PowerWater is a great tool to use if you want to see how much electricity your household uses and how much money you could save in each room of your home. The Virtual Energy Audit requires Flash Player, so you should download a free browser like Puffin from the iTunes store to allow Flash Player files to run on your iPhone or iPad before doing the audit.

Joule Bug

Currently only produced for iOS systems (Apple products), Joule Bug is one of the niftiest mobile apps for reducing energy use around. The app is essentially a game that encourages you to do certain things around the house. These things commonly include turning off the lights when you go out, turning off the water while brushing your teeth, and so on. When you do one of these energy-reducing actions, you receive points via the game and you climb the leaderboard. It makes green living a competition and encourages people to put more effort into it.

MyCO2Carbon Calculator

Measuring your carbon footprint is an important step in using less energy in your home. It is important because it helps you figure out how, where, and why you are using this energy. If you have an Android phone, then finding out the size and specifics of your carbon footprint is made easy with MyCO2Carbon Calculator. The application is easy to use, easy to understand, and can track your data over long periods of time (so that you can take note of improvements).

Meter Readings

Meter Readings gives you a daily reading of your power meter. It can help you track how much energy you are using each day and tell you what area you are using it. It can also tell you how much this energy costs and what percentage of your monthly utilities bill it makes up. Knowing these things is essential in reducing the amount of energy that you use and in saving money.

If you are interested in saving money by using less energy, then you definitely need to check these mobile applications out.
