LITTER CAMPAIGN RECOGNITION

Announcement posted by City of Canada Bay 24 Jul 2014

Council’s Stop Litter in the Bay project has taken out top honours in the ‘Hey Tosser. Litter Reduction Award’, says Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Council and our community”, Mayor Tsirekas said.

Stop Litter in the Bay aims to discourage littering in Canada Bay and included all Council vehicles featuring a sticker reminding people to keep the city clean plus many other innovative components.

The successful project involved targeted community education, infrastructure upgrades in Cabarita Park, installation of key litter chalk art messages along the bay, educational mosaic artwork in Cabarita Park created with the help of local school students, surveying and litter audits.

“This project has successfully reduced litter in Cabarita Park – from BBQ litter, cigarette butts and general waste – and is a great example of what can be accomplished when we work together,” Mayor Tsirekas added.

The awards were announced at the Keep NSW Beautiful Awards held on Friday, 18 July hosted at Concord Golf Course by City of Canada Bay – as winners of the 2013 Keep NSW Beautiful, Most Sustainable Council Award.
