Feel every dimension with new Onkyo future-ready AV receivers

Announcement posted by Amber Technology 25 Jul 2014

Hi-fi specialist, Onkyo, has introduced state-of-the-art technologies to its line of AV receivers. Paving the way for future-ready entertainment hubs, the new range is the first of its kind to offer Dolby Atmos® and 4K/60Hz capabilities for the most immersive home cinema experience yet.

The launch of the new AV receivers reinforces Onkyo’s branding message: “We not only amplify sound, we amplify emotion.”

The cornerstone of the Onkyo amplification concept - fine-tuned over the company’s 67 year history - is high current. High Current Power Supply (HCPS), combined with a suite of other advanced technologies such as Dolby Atmos®, delivers more dynamic, engaging sound to bring AV enthusiasts closer to the art they love.

7.2 channel AV receivers
The three 7.2 channel AV receivers - TX-NR838, TX-NR737 and the TX-NR636 - are the first to offer Dolby Atmos®[i] in Australia as the next-generation audio format, providing multidimensional sound for the most captivating user experience possible. Dolby Atmos® allows specific sounds to be placed and moved anywhere within the room, with audio that can be heard from all directions including overhead and underneath. For example, users can hear the flutter of a butterfly’s wings from an arm’s length or the tremors of a volcano in the distance.

Other elements of Emotion Delivered sound enable users to experience the extraordinary in the comfort of their home. As the most advanced AV receivers on the market, the TX-NR838, TX-NR737 and the TX-NR636 are the few models compatible with the new HDCP 2.2 copy protection standard. This feature will become increasingly widespread in the coming years as Hollywood studios, satellite broadcasters and IPTV services have agreed to adopt this new copy protection feature for future 4K content as well as other premium studio releases.

The 7.2 channel models also have double the standard digital signal processing (DSP) power to deliver crisp, clear audio decoding of multichannel studio-resolution soundtracks. Offering true high fidelity, the three models also feature Direct Mode to satisfy both analogue purists and turntable hobbyists. Providing vinyl fans with greater control, Direct Mode lets users bypass the tone control, video and digital signal processing circuitry for natural two-channel sound or 2.1 channel stereo to fill the room with bass.

All three AV receivers use Onkyo’s premier Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry on the front and centre channels to achieve more natural sound. For greater control, users can also assign the surround back channels to bi-amp the front speakers. The receiver features Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz 7.1-channel up-mixing and uses industry-leading Qdeo™ up-scaling technology to convert low-resolution video to 1080p/4K for superior viewing.

All models
The latest range - including the entry-level 5.2 channel TX-NR535 - has the new HDMI 2.0 standard, which supports 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (4K/60Hz) for the most stunning picture possible. All four models are 3D-ready and can carry high resolution 3D video formats from source devices to 3D capable displays via HDMI.

The 2014 line-up has been meticulously tuned to deliver clear, full-bodied sound with a revealing mid-range and fast, punchy bass. Users are able to steer DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby® TrueHD soundtracks through multiple channels to fill rooms with impressive two-channel sound.

Onkyo’s new AV receivers are designed to be easy to use for novices and enthusiasts alike. Catering to today’s demand for an intuitive user experience - such as the need for greater wireless connectivity options - built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are included as standard features across the 2014 range.

The free Onkyo remote app for iOS and Android devices easily locates and streams network-attached high resolution tunes via the DLNA® set-up. Users can enjoy streaming tracks from the remote app or through sources such as Spotify[ii], Deezer and TuneIn from within the app.

In addition to wireless options, all AV receivers have traditional, plug-in sources such as coaxial and USB ports to ensure all bases are covered. The 7.2 channel AV receivers each have seven HDMI inputs and two outputs, while the TX-NR535 has six HDMI inputs and one output.

Other ease-of-use features include Onkyo’s proprietary AccuEQ calibration system. This ensures the surround sound is optimised to suit individual room acoustics and speaker set-ups for the best possible listening experience. Ideal for managing fluctuations in usage, the new AV receivers also use Onkyo’s custom high-current architecture, safeguarding an adequate reserve of power.
